The Neighsayers - Weekly Eye-Catchers 24th - 30th July 2023

Weekly Eye-Catchers 24 th  – 30 th  July 2023 24 th  July – 6:50 Windsor   Proficent   Decent pedigree and caught my eye here. Travelled well in rear, maybe overaced at times, wall of horses Infront with no room, soon pushed along and found nothing off the bit. Probs indicates she isn’t fit and maybe being prepped with handicaps in mind. Look to back in Nursery’s.   25 th  July – 6:00 Wolverhampton    Eminent Jewel    Scottish wankstain brought this to my attention, Nice type. Badly missed break, held up in rear, travelling very smoothly, no clear run at vital time, headway when got gaps ran on very nicely, easily the best horse from this race. Looks to have the ability to be 90+ in my opinion. Keep onside throughout the season.   27 th  July – 4:45 Doncaster    Mathematician    Didn’t go unbacked on handicap debut and slightly disappointed on tough ground.  Hes a Starspangledbanner out of a q...

The Neighsayers - King George Preview 2023

King George Preview    One of the highlights of the flat racing calendar is the King George and this year we are in for a treat, with the 3yos from the Epsom Derby taking on the older established horses. Similarly to the Epsom Oaks and Derby blogs, I will be doing a runner-by-runner preview on the race, with a few bets advised. Enjoy reading and good luck with your bets. @LukeQuinn01   *Prices correct at time of writing    Bolshoi Ballet  Price – 150/1   Highly promising at 3yo but never scaled the hights his 11/8 Epsom Derby SP suggested, even though he is a G1 winner in the states. Has held his form well this year, with a very good runs in the Wolfreton and Aston Park Stakes. This is a significantly tougher task for him up in class and it is highly likely he is on pace setting duties for more fancied stablemates here. Ignore.   Deauville Legend  Price – 25/1   Highley progressive at 3yo, rising from a handicap mark of 89 all the way to...

The Neighsayers - Racing League Week 1

Racing League Week 1 No matter what you think about the format or the promotion of the Racing League. It’s competitive racing for decent money, which is what the sport needs right now.  Who will win this year’s edition?   Well we’re firmly in the camp of London & The South to better their 2nd place finish last year. Available at 6/1 with sky bet to be the top team, if you can get more than pennies on. They’re led by marmite presenter, Matt Chapman. Race 1 - 2YO 5F Nursery A race where there doesn’t seem to be an abundance of pace on, so CALLIANASSA is the selection here. She went forward at York over 6 furlongs last time and showed plenty of speed, so the drop to 5 furlongs should suit on that evidence. The only other visible pace angle is I’m So Dizzy, but it looks as if she’ll break well before being restrained. CALLIANASSA’S profile may look patchy, but if you ignore the Royal Ascot run where she was obviously outclassed, her profile is more than fair for the gra...

The Neighsayers - Weekly Eye-Catchers 18th-23rd July 2023

Weekly Eye-Catcher’s 17 th  – 23 rd  July 2023   17 th  July – 5:40 Windsor   Dark Before Dawn    Gelded, had to have 4 th  run for a mark, showed abit more on this run without getting too close to the impressive winner, travelled well on outer, asked for effort and responded well, not fully knocked about. Looked prepped for handicaps.   17 th  July – 8:00 Wolverhampton    Manxman    Lazy type but does have okay level of ability, didn’t travel with fluency, always had to be niggled from off the pace, never picked up the bridle, ran on from miles back late on for never nearer 3 rd . Would like to see some headgear on and that would encourage me to back him over 1m4+.   18 th  July – 2:00 Beverley    Boardroom   Massive Eye-Catcher showed promise amidst greenness on debut, awkward head carriage, raced slightly on it but when switched outside put in very good back end work, making up loads of gro...

The Neighsayers - Friday 21st July

Friday 21 st  July    5:20 Newbury 1m Handicap    This big field looks competitive on first glance, with the full complement taking their chance here, but in my opinion, I feel the race is full of dead wood what can be ruled out before the starter lets them go.  ISLE OF JURA  looks a standout bet for me at the current prices of 4/1, after an Eye-Catching effort LTO behind the NTO winner Tiffany. Restrained in rear, made decent headway into the race with not many getting involved from off the pace until late, no clear run before being switched, where  ISLE OF JURA  then ran on nicely under hands and heels for 4 th .   This stoutly bred Lope De Vega looks to have bags of scope, nice physical type who looks Asif he is coming on with every run for new trainer George Scott. The aforementioned trainer likes to bring his horses on slowly with handicaps in mind, so it wouldn’t be a shock here to see a much-improved performance from  ISLE OF...

The Neighsayers - Monday 17th July Selections

Monday Club  After the No show of flat racing Sunday, and the riddance of the honking July course now referred to as “The Kip”, it would be rude not to do a small blog for the competitive racing on Monday. Swanny and Lewis have found 4 bets they feel have variables in their favour, and should be going very close. GL if following, hope you enjoy reading. 3:45 Ayr - Ayr Gold Cup Trial Handicap 6f A competitive handicap trial for one of our famous sprints on the calendar, I like the look of the Grant Tuer train  ILLUSIONIST . A return to soft ground should suit this horse after an encouraging run at Haydock last month, finishing midfield. He showed enough to suggest a return to the winner’s enclosure shouldn’t be too far away once he gets his conditions. Versitile over 5-6f and gets a good draw in 6, I see the 14/1 on offer a great EW play.  Selection - Illusionist EW (14/1 Bet365, 11/1 Hills)  4:20 Ayr- Afternoon Tea at Western House Hotel Handicap 6f Another competiti...

The Neighsayers - Weekly Eye-Catchers 10th-17th July 2023

Weekly Eye-Catcher’s 10 th  – 16 th  July 2023   11 th  July – 2:10 Pontefract    Mistress Tiete    Jockey clearly didn’t walk the course beforehand, travelling very well, made effort very wide in centre of track, ground was pure dead in the centre, and it just didn’t get home on tough ground. Back anywhere in 6f Nursery’s   12 th  July – 4:55 Yarmouth    Watermelon Sugar    Guessing the right people didn’t get the massive overnight/morning prices here, travelling in rear, horses Infront to the right have come under pressure early 3f out, so what does the jockey decide to do? Lead the horse behind the struggling horses instead of coming left where he had clear daylight to make a challenge, ran on late under hands and heels, not off. Looks handicapped to win on the turf or AW with his split mark making it easier on the turf, just a matter of when connections want him to go in. back in 5-6f handicaps.   13 th ...

The Neighsayers - Antepost Angle

Antepost Angle  Yorkshire Oaks 1m4f G1 After Soul Sister being beaten in tonight’s Grand Prix de Paris i believe I have found the best antepost price currently available for the rest of the flat season. The bet is EMILY UPJOHN to win the Yorkshire Oaks. This has to be the logical target now given that she now looks to be confirmed as the number one middle distance filly at Clarehaven. Although she ran a belter in defeat to Paddington I think they’ll being going straight back up in trip to a race Gosden won twice in recent years with the best filly of all time (Enable). My main concern was Soul Sister going for the race but I’m not sure the 12f is her optimum trip despite being an Oaks winner. But now I see Emily coming here most  definitely,  as she goes on any ground so there’s no worries on that front. There is a chance she could run in the King George in 2 weeks but I wouldn’t be fussed either way if she ran or not to affect her chances on the Knavesmire. I see her goi...

The Neighsayers - Friday 14th July

Friday 14 th  July    5:10 Ascot 6f Handicap    Decent race on paper, and for me there is a standout bet in here, INGRA TOR has been in my tracker in anticipation for a turf campaign after 2 good showings on the AW after a gelding op. In my opinion after his 3yo win at HQ where he beat subsequent group winner Harry Three, it was a shock to me that INGRA TOR didn’t kick on to be a stakes performer, so im more than happy to bet him here at current odds of 5/1.   The aforementioned AW runs were very decent, shaping with promise on both runs. His run at Wolverhampton was good after missing the break slightly, he was slightly short of room on a tight track what wouldn’t have suited him, doing well to run on into 4 th . His Kempton 2 nd  is also working out well, with 3 horses coming out and winning since, including the dash winner. I’m anticipating a good showing at a track I think may play to his strengths as he always looks like he wants abit further than...

The Neighsayers - Thursday 13th July

Thursday 13th July  2 Selections Today at Very Fair Prices in big field sprint handicaps, what could go wrong? Be Lucky. @Swan1_Oliver 15.00 Newmarket - Bet365 Handicap A cracking sprint handicap which many would call the proverbial “Minefield”. I’m chancing the William Haggas trained Alpha Capture. A nice 2yo campaign saw this horse just touched off in the Weatherbys 2YO race at Donny By Cold Case, a solid yardstick. He then went on to land the listen Rockingham stakes at York.  He has since then been tried on the All Weather at both 2 & 3, some which I was a little surprised at as I didn’t think as a 2yo he shaped as the type to need the surface, albeit these being AW championship qualifiers. It means to say whether he has progressed from 2 to 3 after these showings, but this horse was quoted to initially be on the plane to Meydan in the early part of the year, so I’m hoping a return to turf will spark a revival into the horse.  A lot with depends of how the track p...

The Neighsayers - Weekly Eye-Catchers 3rd - 9th July 2023

Weekly Eye-Catchers 3 rd  – 9 th  July 2023    3 rd  July – 5:45 Windsor   Make It Easy    Should have won this race comfortably. Slow away, behind the ‘not offs’ travelling well, prominent horses were 10l Infront and stole a march, had a troubled run 3-2f out had to sit for longer than needed, flew home for 2 nd , was miles the best in the race. Should be winning next time out, shown loads of ability here.   3 rd  July – 6:15 Windsor   Anna Aurelia    Blatantly stopped, travelling okay in rear of mid div, never put in the race jockey giving it the chicken wing treatment, hasn’t picked his stick up, looks to be being prepped with handicaps in mind, back her in handicaps.    4 th  July – 7:50 Roscommon    Jackfinbar    Big eyecatcher here returning to the track after 1459 days off, probably the biggest absence I’ve seen but did show that he retains all ability after a 3 rd  in a liste...

The Neighsayers - Saturday 8th July

A typically busy Saturday's racing, which can be hard enough as it is, never mind with uncertain weather thrown into the equation. However, we deal with the cards we're dealt and hopefully they're drawn favourably. Here are our NAP's for this weekend's racing and hopefully, they can be better than previous weekend's. 17:12 Beverley - Mascani - Weatherbys Bloodstock Pro Handicap ( 15/8) (@swan1_oliver) My weekend NAP is the Grant Tuer trained MASCANI . This horse has been tried in his maidens over shorter trips that it’s pedigree suggests would suit and a step up and handicap debut to 1m 2 seems to be great placing by the trainer.  The best of his work has been late in runs, and I think this trip will be the making of the horse. The booking of Benoit De La Sayette is also eye-catching. 3:00 Sandown - Stenton Glider - Coral Distaff (11/4) (@racing_lew) I don’t think this is the strongest listed race we’ll see and I think 11/4 is on the bigger side of where she sho...
