The Neighsayers - Weekly Eye-Catchers 18th-23rd July 2023
Weekly Eye-Catcher’s 17th – 23rd July 2023
17th July – 5:40 Windsor
Dark Before Dawn
Gelded, had to have 4th run for a mark, showed abit more on this run without getting too close to the impressive winner, travelled well on outer, asked for effort and responded well, not fully knocked about. Looked prepped for handicaps.
17th July – 8:00 Wolverhampton
Manxman
Lazy type but does have okay level of ability, didn’t travel with fluency, always had to be niggled from off the pace, never picked up the bridle, ran on from miles back late on for never nearer 3rd. Would like to see some headgear on and that would encourage me to back him over 1m4+.
18th July – 2:00 Beverley
Boardroom
Massive Eye-Catcher showed promise amidst greenness on debut, awkward head carriage, raced slightly on it but when switched outside put in very good back end work, making up loads of ground late whilst not really understanding her job. Oldroyd normally leaves abit off them for debut so I can imagine she will come on loads for this run. Will be odds on for maiden unfortunately but defiantly a type who I’d like to follow throughput the year, promising. Would like to see her in the Roses Stakes at the Ebor meeting.
19th July – 7:10 Yarmouth
Zina Colada
Nice homebred, Half-sister to Talented Farhh To Shy, made encouraging debut here, friendless in the market but travelled with the usual zest of her dams offspring, travelling well when making challenge on a wing, didn’t find as much as expected but did look to slightly get lost when asked for effort. Should come on loads for the experience, ill be looking to back her in novice/maidens nto, bigger bet if at Yarmouth.
20th July – 3:55 Hamilton
Clash Of The Ash
Eye-Catchers regular Andrew Mullen will get ANOTHER nice brown envelope after his ride on this. Showed enough on both starts to suggest she has a decent level of ability. Expertly stopped today, stepped up in trip on tacky ground at Hamilton, a trip the horse wouldn’t get in a horsebox, travelled well for long way, and didn’t finish. Expect another quick run with Midge on over 1m+ then I’ll be looking to back her on-handicap debut back down in trip. Plenty of speed on both sides of pedigree so I’ll look to back her over 6-7f in handicaps. I’d say she’s a 75+ filly in time.
21st July – 9:00 Pontefract
Run This Way
Touch gone astray on this, travelled the best throughout the whole race, stopped on the rails when going very well, no run whatsoever, not knocked about. Nice program for him in back end 6f races at Pontefract. Keep him onside at Pontefract.
22nd July – 8:15 Doncaster
War Defender
Bold effort from the front, last off the bit late on, early keenness told and didn’t find as much as expected. Somehow doesn’t have a split mark even tho he is 0-17 on turf, id be looking to back him at Newcastle over 1m. 12lb below last C&D winning mark.
