The Neighsayers - Friday 13th September
No blog yesterday for the first day of the Leger meeting, mainly due to uncertainty around the ground we were getting. We’re back for day 2 though.
15:00 Doncaster - Big Mojo
A lot to like about this horses chance today, starting with the drop back to minimum trip, showed his usual pace at York but failed to stay. Looks to be plenty of pace on in here too with Aesterius drawn on his side and then King’s Call, Zayer and Tropical Storm over the other side. If he sit’s just off these and strikes late he should emulate last year’s success for connections with Big Evs. A somewhat shock winner at Goodwood but should that was no fluke when running a good race at York when not staying as I’ve mentioned.
Selection - Big Mojo 5/2 General - 1pt win
16:10 Doncaster - Beatrice Shilling
This favourite, Cabrera has to be taken on for me. So will be going in with Beatrice Shilling here. Without getting all cliche, she was doing her best work late at Salisbury and prove she stayed the trip, the race just paid to be prominent and she was in a pocket for a long way. A more galloping track like Donny will suit her, her best to date came at Newbury which is almost identical to Donny. Only concern here is a slight lack of pace in the race but I’d be confident she can be better than 80 now tackling what looks her ideal trip.
Selection - Beatrice Shilling 5/1 General, 6/1 Bet365 - 1pt win
17:20 Doncaster - Artagnan
Improved plenty for handicapping on the back of a what looked a disappointing 5th at Nottingham, but there’s been a group placed horse in there and 2 sales race winners and some nursery winners too. Good form. Won easily at Goodwood and then ran a huge race against the draw bias at York where he just beat Far Above The Law into 2nd. Would expect him to confirm that form with there being no obvious bias’ on show yesterday. Hope this is a case of best horse in the race wins.
Selection - Artagnan 7/2,100/30 general. 4/1 available William Hill - 1pt win
