The Neighsayers - Weekly Eye-Catchers 10th-17th July 2023
Weekly Eye-Catcher’s 10th – 16th July 2023
11th July – 2:10 Pontefract
Mistress Tiete
Jockey clearly didn’t walk the course beforehand, travelling very well, made effort very wide in centre of track, ground was pure dead in the centre, and it just didn’t get home on tough ground. Back anywhere in 6f Nursery’s
12th July – 4:55 Yarmouth
Watermelon Sugar
Guessing the right people didn’t get the massive overnight/morning prices here, travelling in rear, horses Infront to the right have come under pressure early 3f out, so what does the jockey decide to do? Lead the horse behind the struggling horses instead of coming left where he had clear daylight to make a challenge, ran on late under hands and heels, not off. Looks handicapped to win on the turf or AW with his split mark making it easier on the turf, just a matter of when connections want him to go in. back in 5-6f handicaps.
13th July – 3:10 Doncaster
Point Given
Weak in the market on debut, expected to come on from this coming from Stoute’s yard. Looked green and outpaced early, picked up the bit and made challenge through horses, ran on well when looking green when shaken up, nearest finish. Will have learnt a tonne from that and will be hard to beat in 6-7f maidens.
13th July – 3:45 Doncaster
Shimmering Moon
Spotted by Swanny in the parade ring, nicely put together sprinter with size, scope and a powerful hind end. Ran well from off the pace, had to wait for gap on far side whilst the winner made all and had a better track position in a slowly ran race. Ran on very strongly and will be a solid bet in maidens next time out. A type we would like to follow throughout the season.
15th July – 2:55 Ascot
Jean Ribault
Nicely bred type, stamina on the dam side, was interesting to see him starting over 7f. Travelled well enough but they went slow, looked to be tapped for tow once asked for a challenge, but did show enough on the bridle to suggest he has a decent level of ability. I’d be interested in backing him over 1m2+, may be a 3yo type. Yards runners normally come on for a run.
15th July – 6:30 Hamilton
Quanah
Showed he retained ability here, blazed loads of speed from an unfavourable draw, dropped away late but shown enough here to follow him up next time on soft ground. 5f-6f at Hamilton is perfect for him, would like him without the headgear. Keep onside.
