Weekly Eye-Catchers 3rd – 9th July 2023
3rd July – 5:45 Windsor
Make It Easy
Should have won this race comfortably. Slow away, behind the ‘not offs’ travelling well, prominent horses were 10l Infront and stole a march, had a troubled run 3-2f out had to sit for longer than needed, flew home for 2nd, was miles the best in the race. Should be winning next time out, shown loads of ability here.
3rd July – 6:15 Windsor
Anna Aurelia
Blatantly stopped, travelling okay in rear of mid div, never put in the race jockey giving it the chicken wing treatment, hasn’t picked his stick up, looks to be being prepped with handicaps in mind, back her in handicaps.
4th July – 7:50 Roscommon
Jackfinbar
Big eyecatcher here returning to the track after 1459 days off, probably the biggest absence I’ve seen but did show that he retains all ability after a 3rd in a listed race here. Travelling well in rear, asked to go but no clear run on a few occasions, got run eventually and ran on under hands and heels, I’d say he was the best horse in the race and probably should have won with a better track position. Ran a great Ebor Trial here and the 20/1 available is about fair if staying sound.
4th July – 8:20 Roscommon
Wrecking Ball Paul
Ran a valiant race from the front after racing very keenly, was still kicking out Infront at the 2f pole, weakening out of things late. Was in and around 80+ rated horses here and I feel that he could be better over a slightly shorter trip. I’m shocked they haven’t tried him over 10f since his maiden days, a trip I feel he would be better suited to. If still too keen at 10f I would try him in a hood, but I’m more than happy to back him over 10f in maidens or handicaps. Has a lenient mark to exploit if placed better.
5th July – 2:30 Musselburgh
Willolarupi
Supported in the market when running a very good 2nd on debut behind race fit rivals. Slightly slow away and outpaced in rear, ran green but responded well to jockey urgings, ran on strongly under tender handling final furlong. Will be suited to further in breeding and how he ran today. Back next time over 6f+
5th July – 5:50 Thirsk
Miss Raindrop
Very moderate horse but has shown improvement once moved up in trip, ran an eye-catching race here after being given a very tough task having to come from an unpromising position. Travelled well into the straight (normally does travel well), jockey has tried to get cover for as long as he can behind the eventual leader and then for some reason, he has switched him into a wall of horses getting impeded for a few strides, ran on into moderate 4th. Race was very weak today, but he will be running well in your low grade handicaps/Classifieds over 1m4-1m6. Big price expected, would like to see jockey upgrade from Thirsk.
6th July – 5:55 Bellewstown
Navorrosse
Returned back to turf with improved effort off falling handicap mark, travelled strongly in mid div, niggled into the straight responded well, went for gap on inside and got the door shut on him, jockey stopped and let him come home in his own time, looks handicapped to win at sharp turf tracks over 7f-1m.
7th July – 4:45 Bellewstown
Redondo
Nice stop job on this, green raced in rear, could have made move into race but jockey never put him in a position to challenge, did respond to slight assistance in the saddle but not enough to put him in the race, ran green not knocked about. Look to back him in handicaps, should get a nice mark.
7th July – 6:30 Bellewstown
Scarlet Dancer
Biggest Eye-Catcher I’ve seen in a long time. Huge run from impossible position at pace favouring track in the first-time blinkers, missed break 5l down early, tapped for tow slightly on drop back in trip, jockey sat last miles off the pace, always travelling well just put into the race very late, flew home nearly winning the race from impossible position under hand and heel riding. 5f-7f this horse is certain to win plenty of races in the blinkers. At least 20+lb improvement due in coming months when running in blinkers. Very strong on this.
8th July – 4:10 Naas
Altimara
Nice debut here, showed plenty of speed, ran well from off the pace, travelling very well when held together behind horses, got gaps and ran on late under hands and heels, got a nice cruising speed and will be more than capable on winning races over 5-6f.
8th July – 5:05 Naas
Go Sioux Me
Very poor ride, managed to find trouble in a 4-horse race, overaced early but soon settled, travelling best into the straight, jockey has found himself in a pocket on the rail and waited for gaps to open, no gaps opened and he finished fast late into 3rd. Miles the best horse in this race putting him at about 90+ rating wise , should be picking up a maiden NTO, would also like to follow into handicaps if mark is lenient.
