The Neighsayers - Tuesday 27th August

The less said about yesterday the better, no qualms in admitting how bad that was. Fariha limited the damage with a place. Not the greatest day's racing here so just the one bet. Hopefully make it count. +3.65pts in the 2 days we've brought in these daily blogs. As mentioned in the WhatsApp group, these will very likely replace the week ahead, I felt that held me back tipping some things on the day as already had those bets to look forward to. Quinny's eye-catchers are staying, he mentioned in the also in the WhatsApp that the horses just haven't been there and won't force them. Anyway, into Tuesday's sole bet. 18:38 Lingfield - Ultramarine This horse is now more than fairly handicapped returning to an artificial surface where he's a 4 time winner from 15 attempts, along with 2 2nd's and 2 3rd's, so to say he goes on the AW is an understatement. He's held his form pretty well on the turf this summer despite being a 23 race maiden, he's ran ov...

The Neighsayers - Monday 26th August

Decent day on Saturday with the two stronger bets going on. Could’ve put a few more today but prices have gone on both so just the two each way plays today.  14:17 Southwell - Fariha I’m back once again with this horse and much like Emily Upjohn, this is not a cry for help. Amazed that connections are persisting with this horse but hopefully that’s testament to the ability she shows in the morning’s. Sickening beat on handicap debut and then failed to back it up next time out over the same C&D but she was ridden handy that day and probably wasn’t made use of properly. She’s had plenty of time off since then and her comeback run at Haydock wasn’t devoid of promise, she was again keen but first time hood goes on today which hopefully work the oracle. She was short of room at Haydock and didn’t much loads of in roads when in the clear but 4 of the 5 in front of her were ridden closer to the pace. I’m glad she’s come out a bit in the market so can play this each way. 11/2 0.5pts E/...

The Neighsayers - Saturday 24th August

Plenty of action today, almost certainly too much but let's see if we can find some winners to pay for the Bank Holiday weekend. Final day of the Ebor meeting so a couple of bet's from there as well as elsewhere. York day's 1-3 review went out late last night and had some positive feedback on that so hopefully worth the read. 14:05 Goodwood - Prestige Fillies Stakes Will play towards the top of the market here and thought the 9/4 for ROYALTY BAY was more than fair on all known form. Arguably should've won the Prix Six Perfections in France and would've in a handful more strides. Now I'm no French expert but the 2 Frenchie's she split were seemingly well regarded. She looked as if she may appreciate this speedier 7 furlongs. The O'Brien horse takes on 2 extra furlongs here today but not convinced she'll like the softening ground. Anshoda top rated here but has gone off big prices in both her runs and she looks as if she wants a sterner test of stamina...

The Neighsayers - York Day 1,2 and 3 Review

Firstly, can only apologise for the lack of content recently. Wanted to do daily content for York but work and other things just haven't allowed for that. But here we are and let's review what we've had so far. Day 1 13:50 Where do we start here. Gave a mention to DEMOCRACY DILEMMA in the only preview of the week and he ran a belter. Blazed a trail before not seeing out the extended 5. Shown he can be competitive in handicaps off his lofty rating and dropping to a full 5 furlongs would have a decent chance again. BERGERAC has to be mentioned, winning "his side" from a double figure draw. POCKLINGTON probably caught the eye of plenty here finishing fast and late, would have a very fair chance in the Portland at Donny during the leger meeting. The race is that little bit further and suits the hold up horses that bit more. 14:25 THE LION IN WINTER ever so impressive here. Had little right to do that with his page but won like a proper one and looks a live player towa...

The Neighsayers - York Ebor Festival Day 1 Preview

The greatest week in the flat calendar is here, there's just something about York, a race course that does it so right and year on year gets the horses, crowds and plaudits it deserves and this year looks as good as any they've had. A packed Juddmonte, new Acomb entry rules see a monster clash so early and extra prize money for the City of York stakes surely has be on the cusp of Group 1 status. All that and not even mentioned the Nunthorpe, but that's for Friday... Let's get into Wednesday's action. 13:50 Symphony Group Handicap Atleast we've got an easy race to ease us into the week... Typical York sprint where I'm sure if you ran this 22 times you'd get 22 different winners but let's try and work out how this goes. Low draw normally favoured here but there's pace all the way across the track, coming from stalls 2,3,6,7,9,10,11,12,15,16,17 and 19, should be a fair contest. However, I'm sticking low and coming from stall 3 is DEMOCRACY DILEM...

The Neighsayers - The Week Ahead Week 29 (+5)

Feels good to be back, result's might make that short lived but we'll give it ago anyway. Will get caught up with the figures and get them in the end of week review but for now let's get back into the racing... Tuesday 14:45 Lingfield - Alhain Quite surprised this is as big as it is currently. The case is now there to say she's an all weather horse, her runs at Lingfield in the listed spring cup and at Kempton in a conditions race give her every right to be favourite in this race. She'll want to be handy and there looks little pressure in this apart from Purefoy who is a danger also returning to the all weather. However, Alhain is the bet here for me and the current 9/2 is generous. Wednesday 16:15 Beverley - Orbaan Looked set to run a big race in the shergar cup but was first reserve so never got a run. He'll undoubtedly want to run in the Clipper handicap next week at York but he's probably right on the cusp of the weights at the minute, so a win here wou...

The Neighsayers - Weekly Eye-Catcher 5th-11th August 2024

Weekly Eye-Catcher’s 5 th  – 11 th  August 2024    5 th  August – 2:30 Ripon    Auntie Jo   3 rd  time this horse has caught my eye, tad slow away, in rear moved well but looked in need of experience whilts not handling the track. Will get a mark now and should be more than competitive off marks in the low 60s or less   5 th  August – 3:15 Lingfield    Sir Laurence Graff    Restrained in rear, travelling well with no room to progress, never knocked about in the straight and stayed on. This was a good run and hes a horse who has dropped significantly in the weights (Rightly so) and he can now race in Classified company. Id be keeping him on side over 8f-10f

The Neighsayers - Racing League Week 3

Much better work last week round Wolves with 2 winners coming from Thunder Blue and Willem Twee and then a place from Lough Leane. This week the racing league rolls into Wales and the west playground at Chepstow, let's hope there isn't a repeat of last year with the Fire Alarm delaying proceeding's. Race 1 - 1m handicap Now I have no doubts Dutch Decoy is the right favourite here but could he be over-bet after that Goodwood run? Absolutely. I'm willing to take a chance on Royal Ascot eye-catcher AZAHARA PALACE . Well out of her depth at Ascot on ratings but ran a cracker to finish 8th of 24, not beaten far considering the front 2 were 4 1/2 lengths clear of the 3rd. Can excuse her modest 6th last time out as she was keen early for a certain jockey, which is strange as she's never been keen in 9 of her 10 previous starts. The only other time she was keen, was for the same jockey... She has some handy course form too, albeit at a lower level than this but she's 3-...

The Neighsayers - Racing League Week 2

After a disappointing start on the east coast last week with just Macanudo placing and a blank other wise, the racing league rolls into Dunstall Park for a night at Wolverhampton. The east took the spoils on night one just in front of our fancy for the outright title, Ireland. Race 1 - 5f handicap Not the greatest affair here but the Irish raider at the top of the market, MINT MAN  looks the standout bet in this, a 7 race maiden so far but that's no determinant to his ability and I think a track like Wolves could really suit him. He's acted on Dundalk's all weather surface and placed off higher marks than here, with plenty, if not all of these looking more exposed than him too, he's the bet here. 5lb weight for age allowance in play here too. Selection - Mint Man (5/1 General) Race 2 - 6f handicap Very nice 3yo handicap here, taking a chance on THUNDER BLUE at a price. Wasn't disgraced in the holyrood house at Ascot over shorter and then hampered at the start at Ne...
