The Neighsayers - Saturday 24th August

Plenty of action today, almost certainly too much but let's see if we can find some winners to pay for the Bank Holiday weekend. Final day of the Ebor meeting so a couple of bet's from there as well as elsewhere. York day's 1-3 review went out late last night and had some positive feedback on that so hopefully worth the read.

14:05 Goodwood - Prestige Fillies Stakes

Will play towards the top of the market here and thought the 9/4 for ROYALTY BAY was more than fair on all known form. Arguably should've won the Prix Six Perfections in France and would've in a handful more strides. Now I'm no French expert but the 2 Frenchie's she split were seemingly well regarded. She looked as if she may appreciate this speedier 7 furlongs. The O'Brien horse takes on 2 extra furlongs here today but not convinced she'll like the softening ground. Anshoda top rated here but has gone off big prices in both her runs and she looks as if she wants a sterner test of stamina. The selection has Biniorella Bay held on that run in France but she wasn't granted the cleanest passage at the same time.

Royalty Bay - 1pt win 11/4 WH, 5/2 General

15:50 Goodwood - WH proper betting handicap

Will take a chance on CITY BURGLAR here. Ground will be deteriorating all the time at Goodwood and by this race will be soft all over. This horse should love that, being by Cracksman. Dam and Half sister won on G-S with limited runs on softer but willing to stick my next out and say this won't be a problem. Bumped into Melrose hopeful Too Bossy For Us at Ascot beaten 3/4L when giving 12lb away there on good ground, they were well clear of the rest that day and the winner improved 13lb since. No show at Royal Ascot but that was on rattling ground but then showed himself in a good light on fast ground again beaten by live Ebor chance Ziggy and Ron O who's contesting favouritism for a heritage handicap today too. I have stamina doubts about most of his rivals in the conditions and willing to part with some money to find out.

City Burglar - 1pt win 6/1 Bet365, 11/2 General

17:02 Newmarket - Jenningsbet your local bookie handicap

Hoping this is as easy as I think it could be, will be betting GOOD EARTH here. He's been coming to the boil ever so slowly this year, the more he's ran the better he's looked and still been dropping in the handicaps, hopefully with today being the day that all comes together to win. Started this year off 89 and now runs here off 76 with his last winning mark also being 89. Spring Bloom been winning at 6 furlongs recently but is competent over 5, so a danger but happy to take him on. As for the rest I'm not sure they're good enough, Above won this last year but bled last time out so couldn't be confident with his chances either.

Good Earth - 2pt win 5/2 General

14:25 York - Melrose handicap

Couldn't not put this lad up, but is just about priced right for a race like this, would encourage taking BOG if possible. WILD WAVES was one of my 3 horses to follow for this year and I can't lie I was left scratching my head after that Donny reappearance, but he stepped forward plenty for that and as anticipated has improved markedly for the step up in trip. Was most impressive over the Leger trip at Donny early June but the race was set up for him to win like that, but proved his stamina non the less and didn't look tapped for tow either which will benefit round here. As for Haydock, well just pretend it didn't happen really, slipped on the bend and was lucky he didn't do any serious damage and I'm not surprised he hasn't been out since. The pace here looks to come from those at the bottom of the market so hopefully they can set the race up fairly and the best horse will win, hopefully WILD WAVES.

Wild Waves - 0.5pt E/W 6/1 BF, Paddy, WH & Sky

16:45 York - Roses Stakes

Best bet on the York card today this, but still a competitive race so will keep it to the 1 point. TROPICAL STORM has every chance of getting his head in front for the first time here, he's absolutely rapid and just couldn't see out the 6 furlongs at Goodwood, dropping back to 5 furlongs today and the drop from a Group 2 down into listed class can be enough to get him home first. This will all depends on how the track rides today but looking at yesterday's sprints he's in the right stall1 to show his front running tactics. Market has this right with Mr Lightside prominent in the betting too but he could and probably will be on the wrong side of the track. The rest seem to need to improve plenty to get involved here.

Tropical Storm - 1pt win 3/1 General
