The Neighsayers - Sunday 8th September

Quiet few days again, lack lustre racing even for a Saturday but back today with one at York. Wanted to wait to watch the first before posting to see how the ground looked and it looks soft enough.

15:25 York - Apiarist

Made the York review blog as the main highlight in a 100k heritage handicap and drops markedly in grade here with conditions even more so in his favour. Was keen at the Ebor meeting but Eaves returns on board and he knows this horse well and hope he can get him to settle. He was in stall 18 at that meeting and only 2 horses that finished in the top 10 were drawn double figures and he was held up in rear when 2 of the 3 that finished in front of him were prominent and another in midfield, so in my opinion was majorly disadvantaged.

In terms of this race, Markoon doesn’t have any soft ground in his family and by Kingman he should want it much quicker. Old Cock would be the danger here, Calyx’s seem to like soft ground and has the pivotal influence further back in the family but his Pontefract run would put me off massively, even though he come back form after. Zain Blue has 3L to find and is only 1lb better off here. Amsterdam looks the pace here but he did have his own way at Ascot and couldn’t capitalise and hard to judge what Marcella will bring to the table.

All in all, I think Apiarist is worth a chance on the back of a career best against better horses than he will face here and the conditions around the race look more suitable.

Selection - Apiarist 11/4 - 1pt win
