The Neighsayers - The Week Ahead - Week 26
Much better last week, but could've been better still if I wasn't an idiot, but somethings just don't change. +2.5 pts last week thanks to Law of Average bolting in at 4/1 and Minnesota Lad winning at 7/2. Will give a brief mention to Four Adaay again, not sure this was there to win at Yarmouth, went looking for trouble, found it and then dropped his reigns... one for another day definitely. As for Havana Pusey, well I deserve every bit of stick I got for that. 8/1 SP winning nicely and was as big as 16's in the morning. Left alone due to the weight allowance's the 3yo's get in those races now and definitely made me think you can look into these things too much. Anyway enough of that, let's get this weeks.
Wednesday
16:40 Musselburgh - Sulte Alshams
Stamina to prove here but has given impressions that he will stay and he's the first one from his dam by a real staying sire. Main angle here is he looks like the only pace angle in the race at a place where that is position A1. Had a good blow at Hamilton on reappearance in a very competitive race, then hated both Chester/Heavy ground so can be excused there. Hopeful of a great run.
20:45 Bath - Blue Hero
Extremely well handicapped, winning 4 times year off 53, 55, 58 and 62, he's now back down to a mark of 52 but runs here off 53. Has shown he still retains his ability into this year staying on fourth over 10 furlongs and then a one paced 5th over 14f. He's a 7 time winner, where they've all come here at Bath and twice a winner over 12f which he tries again today. Race looks absolutely spot on for him. No excuses on paper.
Thursday
14:10 Haydock - Arctic Fox
Winner of this year 2 years ago off a 1lb higher mark, has been in form without winning on the flat and over jumps and shouldn't be far away here.
17:00 Yarmouth - Sergeants Legacy
This horse has been gagging for the snip, probably to stop him gagging for something else… but anyway, gelding operation should work the oracle here, he should seriously improve now and can go on. Form of that Kempton run is class for the grade and handicapper has kept him alone even on collateral form.
Friday
15:50 Doncaster - Mon Na Slieve
One from Ascot review here, wasn't asked to do anything at Ascot, finished hands and heels on the bridle. Shown he's more than capable of picking up a decent race and although he's taking on his elders for the first time, this is less competitive and would have to be there at the finish for me.
17:35 Doncaster - American Star
Regressive since he was with Ed Walker, rated 93 in his peak, so coming here off 65 he's very well handicapped. But, it's not just the figures catching my eye, his last two runs have show signs of rejuvenation. Best run last time out at Ayr for some time in a decent looking race for the great, finishing 4th in the 0-75. Had to switch in the final furlong probably cost him one place. The 5th from there has won since too. Pontefract two runs back too another eye catching one, wasn't asked to do a lot, just bumped along into the straight, got "two" with the whip, if you could call them that and ran on with little encouragement. His time is coming.
Saturday
16:12 Sandown - Sun God
Always been keen to follow this horse since Quinny highlighted him in his eyecatcher's column. Was a tricky customer then and he felt he'd be better gelded, well he gets that now. Returned better than ever at 3 and that form from Newmarket is very good. The winner now rated 98 and the 3rd now rated 92, so split those two is a testament to his ability and should be winning this. Likely to be short.
Sunday
15:50 Chelmsford - Stenton Glider
Top rated in here and will be ridden forward too, that suits Chelmsford as I'm sure you're sick of me telling you. Would have a top chance if Declared as it looks a weak enough race.
Monday
19:00 Wolves - Mintana
Decent 3rd at Wolves over the weekend, likes to come off a decent pace which there just wasn't. Looks as if there could be here though with the entries. Will assess.
Tuesday
16:30 Lingfield - Valkyrian
Wanted to bet this horse Sunday at Wolves but wasn't declared. Still of Interest here, as mentioned last time, wide & in rear at Chelmsford but ran on okay. Due.
