The Neighsayers - The Week Ahead 04/06/24
Poor week last week. -1.5pts for the week, only one winner was dissapointing given how well the horses actually ran. Hopefully get back in front this week.
Tuesday
7:00 Wolves - Al Ameen
Ran an encouraging race first run of 2024 on the AW at Kempton, staying on late. He’s then been taken to turf which I don’t think he handles and the form book suggests that too. Down 5lb for the two turf runs and now see’s 7 furlongs on the all weather, which he’s never done before, only on turf and he’s showed bits in them races, so if he can improve on them as he normally does on the all weather, he’d have a great chance here. Slight concern about lack of pace in the race but I think the price justifies the risk and it won’t be as big a negative for him as it is for others.
7:45 Lingfield - Queen’s Guard
Filly with a lot of hype about her last year and showed why at Yarmouth. Obviously had a set back over the summer but has returned in form and looks set to resume winning ways now seeing 6 furlongs again. Kodiac Thriller and Invincible Speed look set to make this and we should be sat just behind them and be best positioned to strike if they get into a duel.
Wednesday
6:55 Ripon - Golden Strike
Fahey stable been going ok recently, especially last night at Wetherby where he sent 4 runners and come away with 4 winners. Also sent 2 to Ayr and one won. One of these winners was a 3YO coming off a break so that’s a positive nod toward this lad. He improved markedly from first to second start last year and I see him as more of a 6f horse than Manhattan Mirage here.
Thursday
15:55 Hamilton - Keep Warm
Winner had it easy at Doncaster last run, where on the day, in that ground it paid to be handy. This lad come tanking into it and was last off the bridle but the winner was away and gone. If he can improve from that run and for the extra distance here, he’s the one in this race for me.
Friday
3:08 Thirsk - Prospect
Always of interest when running at Catterick or Thirsk. Here we have the latter, well handicapped now having won off 11lb higher last year, he’s better at 5 furlongs than 6 but was sent off short enough in a big competitive field last time out, he must be due… this should be less competitive.
8:38 Haydock - Eben Zabeel
Another one from the Chester review production line, which has seen another winner today. This horse has potential to go on now handicapping but these races can be trappy. Will see after decs.
Saturday
16:30 Catterick - Ready Freddie Go
Won this race from a lb higher last year, following a similar prep. No doubt this is his target, wouldn’t want to see Vadamiah declared although this lad is better than her.
Sunday
5:05 Goodwood - Alaskib
Drop in grade from Chester here along with others. Left a nice impression on me this day he could be a stayer on the up. Would prefer to see what’s against him first before deciding to bet though.
Monday
3:35 Lingfield - Covert Mission
Is now very well handicapped and has been freshened up ever so slightly, if there’s little pace pressure here he will win. He’s an aim and shoot type of horse.
5:40 Windsor - Safari Dream
Again this horse features over this C&D. Dropped 4lb since the time he featured here, if he can have his own way under a competent apprentice. Should go close.
