The Neighsayers - Royal Ascot Day 4 Review

 Royal Ascot Day 4 Review

Albany

Can not comprehend how good this was from FAIRY GODMOTHER. How on earth she’s won hands and heels after having the passage she did was incredible. Have to give another mention to Ryan too, the instinct in that moment to come all the way to the stands side was brilliant. Most would’ve tried to go either side of Cradle of love and risked being trapped further. The best 2YO performance of the season and looks every bit a guineas type. HEAVENS GATE showed bundles of pace and wouldn’t look out of place back down at 5 furlongs, but she’ll be nice wherever she goes. SIMMERING improved leaps and bounds since that York run where she already showed ability. CALIFORNIA DREAMER possesses serious ability, she fell foul to the draw here, only one to make any inroad’s from the far side of the main pack.

Commonwealth Cup

INISHERIN was absolute class yet again, showed Haydock was no fluke and looks every bit a sprinter. He took a lead today which was probably important from his draw but he had this won a long way out. Gave a mention for him the July cup in today’s preview at 10/1 and that’s now 3/1 best price. Newmarket will suit him more and when they resume front running tactics he will take a world of beating. LAKE FOREST ran a belter having been off since the middle park, well worth his place at the top table. I’d swerve the July cup with him, seemingly better on flatter tracks and would take up the Sprint Cup as my main target for the season, he may drop In grade to the Hackwood at Newbury to get another group success on his CV. JASOUR probably heads to Newmarket on the back of this too for the July cup, with Shadwell having nothing for the race, Crowley will retain the ride. KIND OF BLUE showed he’s worth his place at Pattern level, another who should be Hackwood bound to get some black type into him.

Coronation

Best filly won here, all the right horses filled the placings and no hard luck stories. Would love to see ELMALKA and SEE THE FIRE back on a straight mile, think that would suit them more. RAMATUELLE just doesn’t stay this sort of mile, she should be prix jean prat in July for the 3YO’s. If she takes in that well and still shows plenty of speed, Maurice De Gheest wouldn’t be out the question against the elders, but the Jean Prat she’d be hard to beat. PORTA FORTUNA a classy winner.

Duke of Edinburgh

DEAKIN travelled with plenty of class here, for me he should try 10 furlongs again up at this grade. Found little. ETHICAL DIAMIOND did well enough to finish 4th having been rank keen early. Another pace collapse looks the case here though being on the outside in the rear third of the field. Best horse won, EPIC POET did well to overturn ZIGGY for 2nd having conceded first run, I’d have him down for the sky bet handicap at the Ebor meeting.

Sandringham

Everyone was seemingly of the impression  that INDELIBLE was a group filly and she’s proved that here, even though she was 4th. Just her and BATTLE QUEEN made it in the top 10 from low draws, the latter can drop down in grade markedly and will be a bet next time. As for the former, the handicapper should leave her alone here really and if she does, in a less competitive race she also has to be a bet. STRUTTING went for home miles out so probably did well to finish 2nd, but the handicapper will have his say. SOPRANO a classy winner of this, coming home fast and late, as his typical for her. ARISAIG also worth a mention, the 3rd home far side and was staying on late. Will be a big player in a less competitive race.

King Edward VII

Yet again, another race on the round course where they’ve gone like the clappers and fell in a hole, aiding those out the back. Saying that, CALANDAGAN looked like he’d have won from anywhere, it’s a shame he’s a gelding but I’d love to see him back on these shores, Great Voltiguer would be number 1 choice as you always know what you’re getting with the York ground, but Bahrain Trophy & Gordon Stakes also possibilities. MONDO MAN was detached early so done incredibly well to finish 4th. SPACE LEGEND done his credentials no harm neither, just beaten by a monster. MACDUFF awful keen, he could be handy over 10 furlongs though.

Palace of Holyroodhouse

A typical cavalry charge, point and shoot sort of race. I was strong on SHAGRAAN here and he’s ran his race again and on another day could’ve won this, as could most of these in typical 5 furlong fashion. The real eye-catcher for me here is BLUE STORM, second time he features in a review having made it at Chester before winning the 3YO dash. He went for the same game as Pilgrim and just had switch round the other runner, flew home and he’s probably the best of these and likely a listed contender next time. MON NA SLIEVE ran an incredible race really, finished hands and heels. Spencer never went for the whip once and finished with a rattle. NO HALF MEASURES ran a monster race on the far side, her and JUBILEE WALK beat everything that side easily.

Quite possibly the best days racing so far, saw some superstars and potential superstars. The Wokingham tomorrow could be highly Influenced by the draw bias that’s sneaking it, but what a way to finish the way. See you all tomorrow.
