The Neighsayers - Royal Ascot Day 2 Preview
A few brief notes race by race from Lewis, Elliot and Quinny here (Initials there race by race) on Day 2 of Ascot, to hopefully strengthen opinions you already have, or give you another angle.
2:30 Queen Mary
EW: Was visually impressed by Make haste on debut was a bit short but 7s now a fair a price may even drift further tomorrow with the money coming for Aidans, will play small Ardestia, traded 1.01 before not getting home over 6 at Windsor on debut thought 50s too big.
LD: Xanthe will be seeing a few quid of my money. Did well to overcome 2 horses with experience, both colts too. Generally much bigger than the fillies this time of year.
LQ: Really good renewal and I’ve come down on Oxford Rock at the prices. She was beaten by Aidans fav in here comfortably on very soft ground at Tipperary, something she looked to hate. She’s a Starspangledbanner out of a quick geound mare and should love this quicker ground. She will have come on plenty for the experience as she looked very green off the bridle and her quick ground action will be seen to much better effect here. 40s looks fair to me and I could see her turning around the form with the now joint fav…..
3:05 Queens Vase
EW: Illinois the best horse in the race on known form and looks ready for this step up, small bet at 9/4.
LD: No real view, possibility of a small E/W on Mr Hampstead ~66/1 back on a more conventional track.
LQ: No bet for me but I’d favour Highbury over the Ballydoyle fav
3:45 Duke of Cambridge
LD: Ocean Jewel put up Antepost. Bet of the week.
LQ: Would have bet Running lion back on a conventional track but the draw has ruined it for me. I’d be happy to watch pre off and back in running if in good pozzy
4:25 Prince of Wales
LD: Small stake on Alflaila
LQ: No bet, will sit back and watch this, should be a cracker.
5:05 Hunt Cup
EW: Like Beshtani in this went close when unlucky in running at Epsom on British debut, the winner has since came out and won a 100k handicap at Sandown on Saturday, 10/1 EW bet for me.
LD: Epsom eyecatcher Fantastic Fox for me here. These sorta races are his bread and butter. Standside draw could be key too.
LQ: Will cover Holloway Boy at 16s here. He hasn’t looked in love with the soft ground he has faced on his last 2 starts and finds him self at the scene of his impressive Debut win in The Chesham. Would like to see him ridden with more restraint and he certainly has the right jockey on him to do that
5:40 Kensington Palace
EW: Summer of love the potential group horse in a handicap here if she can act on turf will play win only, Farhh too shy a cliff horse of mine and Quinnys and think she is a great price at 25/1 ,will have been primed for this and is guaranteed to come there travelling like the wrath of god so would advise leaving some short lays in running.
LD: Thought Rowayeh could have been black type potential last year, could be leniently treated with a run under her belt.
LQ: Echo everything Elliot’s said, looks ideal conditions for Farhh Too Shy, will get a nice pace to aim at, will like her ridden chilly and played late as she does nothing infront. In running lays short. Place markets may offer more value
6:15 Windsor Castle
EW: Will give another chance to Hawaiian won probably the best 2yo novice this season on debut (Had the Coventry winner in behind aswell as other subsequent winners) before flopping on soft ground, 10/1 is worth giving him another chance.
LD: change e/w on Sex on Fire. Not a strong opinion though.
LQ: Hawaiian went far too fast infront in the Dragon Stakes and could be seen to better effect with a more rational ride. May play Argentan EW for penny’s as I feel he bumped into a proper tool on debut at Ripon. 22/1 EW looks okay but it isn’t a race I’d go mad on
