The Neighsayers - Day At The Races - Nottingham 05/06/24
The Neighsayers - A Day at The Races Week 2
The new series started off well last week at Doncaster, with Southern Voyage landing the prize for us at 6/1 (SP). This week we find our self at Nottingham for their 6-race card, where the lads will have fingers crossed for friend of the channel’s runner Concert Boy, who makes his second start for Making Headway Racing and Katie Scott.
It looks a tough card if I’m honest and I will be advising 2 small EW bets what I will be playing on the day. Best of luck
3:57 Nottingham - 1m6f Handicap
Looked an open enough affair here, and my main angle in was to take on the favourite, in my opinion he is too short at 7/4 and I’d be happy to play something EW against him. I can only see 1 other pace angle here in the form of Dreams Adozen, so I don’t think they will be going to quick on the front end, so I will be playing the old boy RYTHMIC INTENT ew at his price of 8/1. Winless since the 2021 Mallard handicap, but he has shown up well on multiple occasions this year, including last time out where he finished 5th in a good Ascot handicap over 12f. He was beaten by Graham for in his last run, but I think he has every chance of turning that around today as the extra 2f will play into RHYTHMIC INTENT’S hands and maybe not so Grahams.
He showed up well making the running LTO, where he was rather taken on for the lead, in which so led to the prominent horses being at a disadvantage, setting the race up for the closers. He ran very well in the circumstances, and I feel that he will be even more at home over an extra 2f today. I’m hoping that they all turn up giving us the dead 8 runners, what sets up nicely for a filthy EW bet , but even if some come out, Id be more than happy to play him EW with 2 places. He looks a well handicapped horse now and finds himself in Class 4 company, a class he hasn’t raced in since hi York win in July 2020. I’d say he has a fair chance in here and he is in a field of horses who lack consistency and have question marks on key variables, hes the solid option for me.
Selection – Rhythmic Intent 0.5pts EW (17/2 Coral, Lads, William Hill)
4:57 Nottingham – 1m2f Handicap
The final race of the day looks open enough, but again many of these look much better suited to other conditions and trips, whereas the roughy of the field PLEDGE OF HONOUR looks like he has everything in his favour here on his seasonal return. He is a C&D winner off 68 and he has wiggled his way down to an attractive mark for the start of the turf season (dropping 8lb on the AW)
All his wins bar 1 have come on left-handed tracks over 10f, and this is what he gets today. The ground has been drying out all week and he couldn’t have it any quicker, he will really thrive on this whereas others may not. His AW campaign this year was mainly used to get his handicap mark down, running over trips he doesn’t get and with cheekpieces on, where now he gets all the conditions in his favour with no headgear on. He put up plenty of good efforts in defeat last year In much deeper races such as the racing league at Windsor and in solid Class 4 handicaps at York, Ascot and Doncaster. My only concern is that he has never won fresh (has placed fresh) leaving me with potential fitness concerns, but I’m hoping they have him ready for this as it looks a good opportunity to get his head back Infront.
Liam Keniry takes the ride, a jockey/trainer combo what have teamed up with 3 winners from 8 runners in the last 12 months, and the horse returns to a track where trainer Dean Ivory currently operates at a 1.11 A/E with a £1 LSP of +81.25, what is by far his highest at any track in the country.
He should get a race run to suit here, with the Kev Ryan horse in first time blinkers, Tavara, Snapcracklepop and Luckys dream wanting to go handy. I’ve had a fair bet on him at 16/1, and it would have been a bigger bet if he came here with a run but we can’t have everything. If he takes a nice blow today, I will back him next time as I believe he is ready to go in on GF ground over 10f. I think his price is rather big and providing fitness isn’t an issue, he should be much shorter come the off.
Selection – Pledge Of Honour 1pt EW (12/1 General)
