Weekly Eye-Catcher’s 29th April – 5th May 2024

 

1st May – 2:40 Pontefract 

 

Beaujolais Nouveau 

 

In rear, showed speed but was green when asked for effort, rolled around in the track but did stay on late. Will have learnt plenty from the education and should be backed at your lesser tracks nto (5 or 6f)

 

3rd May – 5:00 Goodwood

 

City Of Delight 

 

Shaped really well here, held up in rear, made good headway but wasn’t ever in a position to win. Improved massively since being gelded and should be followed in future. Would like a more competent jockey on 

 

4th May – 2:10 Thirsk 

 

Royal Pleasure

 

Noted by the stewards, moved well through the race but had no luck in running and came home under hand riding once the race had gone. Clearly in good form but has had wind issues in the past so can’t be fully all in on this. Ill look to keep him on side over 6f at your flat tracks.

 

5th May – 3:55 Salisbury 

 

Questionable

 

Not the first time she has caught my eye. 3 runs in a month and has hinted ability in 2/3 of them. She moves really well through her races but has taken good blows in a finish. Travelled strongly today and was never really put in the race, hands and heels to the line. Looking forward to what the handicapper thinks, and I will reassess once she has a mark.

The Neighsayers - Friday 13th September

  No blog yesterday for the first day of the Leger meeting, mainly due to uncertainty around the ground we were getting. We’re back for day 2 though. 15:00 Doncaster - Big Mojo A lot to like about this horses chance today, starting with the drop back to minimum trip, showed his usual pace at York but failed to stay. Looks to be plenty of pace on in here too with Aesterius drawn on his side and then King’s Call, Zayer and Tropical Storm over the other side. If he sit’s just off these and strikes late he should emulate last year’s success for connections with Big Evs. A somewhat shock winner at Goodwood but should that was no fluke when running a good race at York when not staying as I’ve mentioned.  Selection - Big Mojo 5/2 General - 1pt win 16:10 Doncaster - Beatrice Shilling This favourite, Cabrera has to be taken on for me.  Nice to get on the board for September yesterday with Snow Berry winning at 15/2 (or 9/1 if you had the luxury), but with the 2pt bet going down it wasn't as good as we'd hoped for, but profit on the day nevertheless. 17:35 Lingfield - Ormolulu Think this is well worth an each way bet now seeing 7 furlongs for the first time and returning to the all-weather. Dropped down in the handicap considerably this year, beginning on 79 and comes here off 70 with the jockey claiming 3. This is the lowest grade of race she's ever contested too, being a 51-70 and now in a fillies only race that can only be a positive too. The favourite takes up a lot of the market here and he's not guaranteed to get his own way in front this time, with Twilight Dancer and Beveragino in the race and I think he's well worth taking on. She was keen in her 3 year old campaign but the hood seemed to have worked the oracle there and hopefully can continue to do so with the slower tempo of a 6 furlong...
