The Neighsayers - The Week Ahead 09/05/2024
Building up some momentum proving to be hard, seem to fire a winner in early and then fire blanks for the rest. -2.5pts last week and now down too +17.68 in the 17 weeks since this series began... averaging +1pt a week not exactly worth shouting about...
Thursday
15:53 Brighton - Calshot Spit
I think today is finally this horses day... change of tactics last time, sending this horse forward seem to spark him up and now if they repeat that tactic, down in trip I think that could be the winning formula. Doesn't look an abundance of pace on, maybe from Iconic Mover but that's not certain. Trainer very much in form (10-27 last 2 weeks), got to be going close here for me.
20:30 Chelmsford - Primo Lara
Think this one is largely overpriced at the minute, went off favourite for an incredibly hot Yarmouth maiden back in September and came 4th. The winner was unbeaten in 3 starts rated 91, now unfortunately no longer with us, the 2nd rated 83, 3rd is 86, the 5th is 87 and 2L behind him was someone considerably more prominent than him in the market, Reaching High. Primo Lara's page suggested that he would improve for a trip and now he's got a handicap mark that's what we get. Straight up from 7 furlongs to 10 furlongs. Her dam stayed 2 miles but better over 10, winning a group 3 and listed contest. Statement her half sister ran in the 1000 guineas and got black type over the mile. Pedigree suggests this is a great bet.
Friday
16:50 Chester - Chillhi
His best run last year was over this course and distance in a higher grade off an 8lb higher mark, comeback run was promising having not had the run of things. Should put him spot on for this.
18:05 Ripon - Paddy's Day
Granted he had the run of the race last time on reappearance at Musselburgh but he had a proper blow there and looked as if he had improved again for a break. Drawn stands side which I like to be at Ripon as well as being a prominent racer.
Saturday
13:30 Ascot - Youthful King
This horse has looked ready to win for a while now, just needing things to drop right. Get's a drop in class which is a huge positive, down into a 0-90 from a 81-100. Horse loves a decent pace to aim at, Graham, Rhythmic Intent, Way of Life should be vying for the lead, as well as a few that like to follow the lead and a keen one in there, should set up nicely.
Sunday
18:00 Newcastle - Fairbanks
Had his debut on the AW but was clearly there for the experience and improved drastically once handicapping. Looks as if he could go on again this year after his comeback run at Thirsk, wasn't disgraced. Family is ladened with Stamina and a few all weather winners also, if he comes on for that, would go close here.
Monday
16:30 Windsor - Global Asset
Should improve now handicapping and seeing the mile. Big step forward on his 3rd run and showed the encouragement needed to take this one forward. Marquand currently jocked up, would love him to be declared on it.
16:47 Catterick - Snash
Introducing the all or nothing horse... a 6 time winner, but never been in the top 3 when not winning. Very capable down at this grade. Not the force he once was but he has wins in him and think he comes here on a mark within his reach. Tactically versatile, it's just if he decides he wants too, but I can't not get involved if there's a pace on, will assess.
18:35 Windsor - Sterling Knight
If this horse hasn't been teed up for this I'd be astounded. Loves this C&D and these Windsor sprint final qualifiers, won one of these last year off 90 and placed in another off 93. Down to 89 now but has shown bits in 2 runs this year. Will look at the draw however.
Tuesday
16:15 Beverley - Cambria Legend
Ran a very good race first time up handicapping in a race that'll be one of the better 3yo only handicaps this year, this doesn't look as competitive at first glance and would be happy to get involved, preferably without the Prescott job but I wouldn't be against taking it on if other variables suited. Will assess.
Wednesday
Will add any possible bets here when entries filter through.
