The Neighsayers - York Day 15/05/24
Feels great to be back on the Knavesmire, one of the fairest tracks in the country and often the best racing ground. Rain may dampen that here but should be no excuses. Competitive days racing and hopefully we can find some winners...
2:15 York - 12f Handicap (Elliot)
Going to side with Ian Williams French import TRACK OF TIME. Last seen finishing a staying on 5th in a Meydan handicap for FH Graffard over 9f , I think this 12f here could be his optimum trip. Has only tackled the trip once but this was probably a career best being beaten a head in a listed race at Saint-cloud where he had Bold act in behind. Was held up that day and I would probably expect similar tactics here with Spencer booked to take the ride, hopefully gets a clear run and should go well, will be backing each way at 18’s.

It's almost a race to throw a dart at the board and back your number however will do my best to provide some logic... however would probably have some better luck with the dart. CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD has come back this year in as good a form as he ever has been in, a never nearer 8th on reappearance at Donny in a big field handicap and then followed that up with a 2nd and 3rd in similar contests since then. His 3rd at Newmarket was a very encouraging one for me, blew the start and only ended up beaten by horses that were more prominent than him in the race, I think he'd have been bang there on normal terms. Be plenty of pace on in this race and his middle draw (13) should give him options as to where to go, but he's drawn near Dakota Gold (15) and Abate (16) as well as Intervention (12) so drawn by pace and should be able to get the perfect trip into this race and expect to see him finishing fast and late. At that point, it's time to close your eyes and hope we get a run...

I'll be taking a poke here at THUNDERING. There were signs towards the end of last year that this horse was coming back to somewhat of his best. After winning a decent contest at Ayr, he then ran a great race in the Cambridgeshire but just found the trip on the short side and then the same story again at Lingfield on his final start of 2023. Reappearance at Pontefract was a quite one but happy to excuse that as he's never really ran well fresh and winner made all that day on heavy ground and was hard to make ground up, apart from Baryshnikov (who has won since) so he's got a lb back for that and more importantly for me, now takes a big drop in class. Successful in his only class 4 handicap start many moons ago, he's now in a 0-85 down from competing with horses ~100 rated. Wouldn't like to see him too far off the pace with it not obvious that it'll be ran at a good tempo.
