The Neighsayers - The Week Ahead 23/05/24

Bit of a quiet week last week having decided to not bet a few of the horses listed, luckily they didn't win but shaped with promise. Alrazeen looks a sure thing when stepped back up in trip, traded odds on at Newmarket before lacking the pace close home for 10 furlongs. Winners coming from Bluestocking and Skukuza from just 5 selections means finishing the +2.25pts at SP. A welcome step in the right direction.

Thursday

15:40 Catterick - Queens Road Revue

Featured last time and has to feature here again for me, sorry Swanny... was miles out the back on reappearance & handicap debut and hopefully will have come on for that. Best run and best piece of form at 2 came on soft ground which we undoubtedly have today, drawn on the stands rail which is often where to be in the soup here. Should hold a great chance.

18:47 Chelmsford - Saaheq

Winner of this race last year off 70 (Mia Nicholls claimed 7) and this year he rocks up off 64 (Mia Nicholls claiming 5) so essentially 4lb lower than last year. Getting on in age now but still showed enthusiasm for racing in 3 starts this year and seems to save his best for Chelmsford these days. Better off at the weights with both Popular Dream and Dark Side Price following recent 3rd at Chelmsford on Good Friday.

Friday

15:25 Bath - Symbol of Hope

Low grade stuff here but this horse loves Bath and has very good back form at higher levels than this last year to suggest he can win a contest like this. Sneaks in off top weight with a competent jockey claiming 7. Ground forecast to dry out before post time which would aid his chances too.

16:55 Haydock - Pearl Eye

Just couldn't get into the race at Chester last time from out the back, did will to get as close as she did showing he's still well treated. Slight concern is first time trying the trip away from an easy 10f like Chester but isn't any indication he won't stay it. Soft ground will be fine. Doha could be well handicapped off 82 but will take up a large share of the market and he form isn't standout.

Saturday

14:45 York - Vintage Clarets

One from the Chester review here, only one to make up ground off a frantic pace, as mentioned in the review, spoke to quinny about it and he has this horse down for York, so happy to get involved here, even in a competitive field like this.

Sunday

15:10 Curragh - White Birch

Seems to have solved his stalls issues, if the ground comes up soft will have a chance against horses who'd prefer better ground. Will get my Tony Calvin on and watch the weather.

Monday

16:45 Leicester - Sergeant Wilko

Owners targeted this race last year, having the 1-2, only running the one this year with a similar profile. Return to 6f will help having been staying on over 5 furlong last time, dropped 1lb since too. Wouldn't want much pace pressure though.

Tuesday

16:15 Brighton - Lunatick

Handles the course which is a positive round here, although was a bit of a non event did it well that day. Is fine on any sort of ground and drop back to 7 should help given how well he travelled on reappearance.
