The Neighsayers - The Week Ahead 15/05/2024
Another bitterly disappointing week last week having gotten off to a flyer... Primo Lara a very nice winner who won't have finished winning yet and then 2 bits of pain in Calshot Spit and Chillhi both touching long odds on before ultimately finishing 2nd. Another small losing week of -0.5pts which obviously isn't the end of the world but need to stop the downward trend at the minute. Now sat at +17.18pts over 18 weeks. Full P/L Breakdown available for the week ahead if anyone is interested.
Wednesday
19:40 Bath - Bobby Kennedy
Typically modest staying handicap around Bath and this lad seems to save his best for round here. Course figures 15252 on all types of ground. Should be close enough to a sedate pace and should confirm the form with Asense, who's the obvious danger. The selection is able to claim 3lb off here thanks to the jockey and Asense now has a fully fledged jockey on so is 7lb worse off. So there's an 8lb swing in the weight's here and we already beat it 1 1/4L last time out. Got to go close.
Thursday
15:15 York - Bluestocking
Be now surprise to any of you who are familiar with me that I've put this up, love this filly for all that she dogged a few last year but alas, she has to have a great chance here. Looks as if this could be run at a crawl and Free Wind could be caught out too far back where as Bluestocking should be slightly closer to the pace and if it comes down to Rossa vs Shoemark tactical nous, there's only one winner.
Friday
15:23 Newmarket - Skukuza
Small field but trappy race however doesn't look as if one will get free in front. Lautrec went forward last time out but that was probably to her demise, so wouldn't expect to see that again. Boughey's will have to lead, along with Hannon's, wouldn't surprise me to see the Johnston runner up there too if it doesn't miss the break again. The selection is a nice enough type and ran well on handicap debut, splitting rivals who were on the bias. Showed he has scope to go on improving.
18:40 Hamitlon - Quintus Arrius
Looks to be in with a great chance here, question marks around a few horses mainly Conservationist, has she trained on and this trip also throws up question marks. Has Punchbowl Flyer has one too many battles in soft ground? Can Catherine Chroi keep winning? Sacred Falls and Iris Dancer be better down in grade. Rock Opera has looked a bit meh the last twice, stopped quickly last time but possible ground doubts. The selection now drops in grade after a very good 4th in a 69-88, comes here into a 59-78 and just looks the solid selection.
Saturday
15:45 Thirsk - Twelfth Knight
Blatantly obvious claims if you watch back his run last time out. Few double entered in here so won't be making any decisions until I've seen who's running against us. Form book says he's targeting the Great St Wilfried but that's August...
16:25 Newmarket - Alrazeen
Nice type this one, can definitely see why he didn't see the track until late as a 2YO. No reason why he shouldn't improve again now seeing turf for the first time. Trip the doubt, will assess after decs.
Sunday
17:15 Newmarket - Signcastle City
Did very well to overturn the eventual 2nd having conceded 1st run, only up 3lb for that and they pulled clear of the 3rd. Drop in trip shouldn't be a problem as he has pace and travels nicely. Shouldn't be too far away from the pace which is needed at Newmarket.
18:45 Newmarket - Victoria Falls
Highlighted in the Chester review that was done on the page, should take advantage of a class drop and gets that here. Large number of entries so will reassess after declarations. 2 runs at Newmarket, form figures of 12.
Monday
16:00 Redcar - Pisanello
No surprise to see him appear in the Thirsk Hunt Cup last time but does often improve for that. Running style means he can be hard to catch, will see race set up.
19:10 Windsor - Sterling Knight
If this horse hasn't been teed up for this I'd be astounded. Loves this C&D and these Windsor sprint final qualifiers, won one of these last year off 90 and placed in another off 93. Down to 89 now but has shown bits in 2 runs this year. Will look at the draw however. (Copy and pasted from last week's TWA, same applies)
