The Week Ahead 09/04/2024

Bit of a mental week last week if I’m honest, 1 winner (4/1) from the 7 bets but Locked n Loaded traded 1.1 in running, Wedgewood 1.16, Russco 2.5 and Persian Phoenix 2.3. So case of the right horses just not getting over the line, but that’s variance… into this week

Tuesday

2:45 Thirsk - Enochdhu

Big fan of this horse off this sort of mark, his comeback run was more than fair too on a night when it paid to be prominent at Kempton. Portman’s runners and this horse specifically too normally improve for the run, which he now is under his belt. He’ll relish conditions and I just wish they hadn’t found him in the market last night. He’s still the winner here for me. He should keep going on  as a 4YO.

3:50 Deuville - Korker

Karl Burke looks to have found a lovely race for Korker here, 5.5f on what they’re calling heavy, the same ground conditions as when producing a career best last time out. Took off at the end of last season winning 2 of his last 3, does tend to be slow away if he could sort this would be a proper group horse on ability but you’re compensated with the price of 3/1, I can’t imagine they would go to the trouble of sending him here half fit, receives 3lb from the fav and looks to have a great chance to pick up some decent prize money.

17:30 Southwell - Apache Star

Looks to have a big chance here for me. Would only need to reproduce his last effort for me. I don’t think he’ll improve loads for the comeback run as he’s normally pretty straight first time out. Race should be run to suit. Birkenhead will blaze a trail with Brownlee likely to go with him. Leodis Dream likes to race prominently but Midgely won’t send two forward, or it’s highly unlikely anyway. Ernest Rutherford will be tracking the leaders if not prominent and Masterclass is just tripless. Good chance.

Wednesday

3:45 Wolverhampton - Chindwin

Desperate for a change of scenery. Massive trainer upgrade and arrives in here on a very low mark. Should go very well in what looks a weak race before decs. Been well backed overnight from 12/1… Admin apologises to Quinny for this…

8:00 Kempton - Red Flyer

Stays this trip well and been competing In much better races than this. Shouldn’t be far away from the pace in what could be a trappy affair. Clear of these on ratings and should just be the best horse.

Thursday

5:23 Southwell - Whenthedealinsdone

Showed a major return to form last time out improving off his first run of the year. Seemed to take to the all-weather well there and with the drop in grade here that could be the final piece of the puzzle to get his head in front.

Friday

5:30 Southwell - Turbo Command

Ever so slight drop in grade here but could be enough to make the difference. Form advertised well from Southwell last time with Great Blasket winning last night. Unchanged for that and should be there at the finish if giving his true running.

6:30 Southwell - Further Measure

Was given a terrible ride not for the first time this season, gets a proper jockey on here and providing the quick turn around doesn’t hinder him, he should be going close here

Saturday

6:40 Wolverhampton - High Court Judge

Only 2 runs for this yard so far so interesting to see it in a selling handicap. Looked ready to win last time out, the two in front and 1 that finished behind him all better positioned than him coming off the turn. This seller would be a drop in grade, should go close.

Monday

3:42 Redcar - Spirit Genie

As always with Redcar, will assess after declarations but ran a huge race in the Lincoln, significant class drop here.

5:12 Redcar - Mayo County

She featured previously and discussed the choice of grade that day and thought she’d benefit from a significant drop, which she gets here. The winner of that Newcastle race now rated 80 and nearly won on finals day at Newcastle. Got a lb back for that too so, comes here in a 0-60 not 0-70.
