The Neighsayers - The Week Ahead 17/04/24
A very poor -6.25pts last week. Couple that arguably should’ve won but cant put that on the P&L! Hopefully we can get back in front this week… seems a long time since winning.
Wednesday
2:25 Newmarket - Gasper De Lermos
Much been made about Justify’s and their ability to train on, having seen a few beaten first time out at 3. But, I think they’re very much decent ground horses, which Newmarket looks to be, with the going stick now 7.5, from 7.3 yesterday. Should have no problems with the slight drop in trip from when 2nd in the Zetland. He’s faced the Newmarket dip already which only a small number of these have. The French raider has to prove himself on the ground and the Godolphin horse has to prove himself on turf. The selection is more than a fair price here.
5:20 Newmarket - Kalpana
78 for this filly just seems a great starting point and is more than fair. She’s likely to improve again for the step up in trip. Did exceptionally well to win on debut amidst greenness and overhauling a very well backed rival. 2nd start she’s bumped into a likely group 1 animal who made all off a crawl.
Thursday
16:10 Newmarket - Izipizi
Couldn’t have been any more eye-catching on debut. Tenderly handled behind a well backed stable mate and clear of the 3rd. Sets a fair standard despite a drop in trip, but shouldn’t be a problem being a kingman.
Friday
16:15 Newbury - Al Shabab Storm
Went off favourite for a listed race at Doncaster back end of the year where he finished 4th. Was keen early that day and paid for his exertions on bad ground. Advertise’s seemed to have improved from 2 to 3 so if he follows that trend he wouldn’t have to do much to win this. He’s also gone up in trip which they’ve also seemed to handle too and gelded over the winter should help him settle this better. Nice horse.
17:15 Bath - Miss Stormy Night
Think this horse will improve hand over first for seeing the turf. Nothing in the family has ever won on the AW and she always looked behind the bridle in her races. She’s a full sister to Under The Stars who was 6th the 1000 guineas the year Love won it. She also then won a listed fillies race. Strong pedigree and chance here, at a course where trainer does well.
Saturday
16:20 Thirsk - Sports Coach
This lad returns and hopefully declared this time. I’m hoping the ground would dry out a considerable amount from their last meeting as it was a mess that day.
17:00 Newbury - Toshizou
Will check this post declarations he’s ready to win, but hard to with win. Needs a strong pace to aim at in his races. Did well to get so close last time.
Sunday
Sunday series at Musselburgh - will feature in its own blog.
Monday
19:50 Windsor - City of Delight
Showed enough in his 4 starts as a late 2YO to suggest he can win races. Gelded shortly after final start of the year. Will reassess after declarations as I’d like a few not declared.
