The Neighsayers - Sunday Series Week 1
The Sunday series returns and always brings competitive racing, decent field sizes and good punting opportunities. We’ll be having a 1pt investment in as many races we feel warrant one over the 6 weekend series much like we did in the racing league, which was a success. It’ll be 1pt win or 0.5pt E/W. Prices will have to be with at least 2 firms to be used also.
15:45 - 5F handicap - (Swanny)
I was really taken by the run of Sun Of Sampers in the slop at Donny the last day. He was backed off the boards late and clearly ran into one that day in the well handicapped Thornaby Pearl, who never looked like losing. Runs off the same mark today and is drawn well to take this. 9/1 is a nice EW price to get the Sunday series off to a flyer.
Selection - Son of Sampers EW (8/1 Bet365, Coral, Ladbrokes, Boyles & Unibet 4 places)
16:45 - 1M handicap - (Lewis)
I think the Jim Goldie trained ALPINE SIERRA worth taking a chance on. He won on his reappearance last year off a 2lb lower mark but he held his form okay in this grade and slightly higher. The only time he didn’t really do that was in the racing league against much superior opposition and on his final start of the year on the AW, so excuses can be made.
He’ll be out in front and is drawn okay to get that position and with Mulrennan booked to ride, that would indicate to me he’s the yard’s best chance in here, with Jim running 4. Few others may be prominent with him, Bell Shot but he’s not certain to stay the trip and also Pallas Lord, but he’s much better on the all-weather and returns to turf on a career high mark, which would be some ask.
Selection - Alpine Sierra EW (16/1 General 4 places)
17:15 - 1M 4F 104Y handicap - (Lewis)
For a large field, very little pace on paper here with just Sax Appeql & STONKING likely to make it. Now we’ve had our winning from Sax Appeal (🎺) in the week ahead recently so I’ll be taking the Heather Main runner here.
Has had a spin over hurdles this winter and even then he was blasted from the front, handles turf and the trainer very rarely ventures to Musselburgh without bringing some prize money back, she’s sent 9 runners to Musselburgh all time yielding 2 winners and 3 further placed efforts. Extended 12 furlongs won’t be a problem here and I think he’s a knocking each way bet.
Selection - Stonking E/W (10/1 Bet365 and William Hill 4 places)
6:45 Musselburgh - 5F handicap - (Elliot)
EQUALITY drops back into handicap company here for the first time since bolting up off 102 at Windsor last season and also went on to place in g1 afterwards, has had 2 runs at meydan down the field in group company managing to get 3lb back from the handicapper so should be fit. Will be ridden prominently which is the place to be here, think he will be too good for these and should be going very close here. Price has collapsed over night but think he’s still a bet at 4/1.
Selection - Equality (4/1 General)
