The Neighsayers - The Week Ahead 13/03/24

After returning a profit of +4.25 pts at SP last week with 3 winners from 7 selections. We're back for another week and hopefully can have a similar successes. Let's get amongst it, away from the festival...

Wednesday

19:15 Newcastle - Pockley

Chanced my arm on him last time with the question mark being 6 furlongs. Stayed on well but left the impression that a strong run 5 would be better... Our Absent Friends and Princess Karine likely to take each other on and a couple of keen sort's in here too should ensure a decent clip. Expect to see him held off these and coming fast and late.

Thursday 

17:45 Southwell - Theotherside

Still an all weather maiden, but that's not without running well in much better races than this, off much higher marks... Had a quiet pipe opener away from Southwell after 11 month off. Would prefer a strongly run race and should get it, She's The Danger, Starsong, Laura's Breeze.

20:15 Southwell - Dapper Man

Will only ever take a look at this horse in blinkers, which are retained here. Now 10lb below last winning mark over this C&D. This horse has one way of running... Fast. No other pace in the race bar Ustath, but even he won't be able to go with this thing. Everything else will be held up.

Friday

19:40 Newcastle - Mayo County

Thought 58 was very generous considering how well it ran behind 3 decent horses all be at least 80+ in time. Outpaced by them before staying on late beaten 7L total. Beaten a similar distance in a deeper race, with the same story applied... staying on late after being outpaced. Now my only qualm here is that she's in a 0-70 off a mark of 58, so could face much better horses, will assess after declarations. Worth tracking.

Saturday

18:30 Wolverhampton - Spiritual Pursuit

Don't need to say much with this one, we bet it last time and bumped into one... very quick horse, kept at the 6 furlong trip and doesn't look anything like the previous one we bumped into here. Not certain to bet this as I think it'll be very short. Will update in the Whatsapp.

20:00 Wolverhampton - Follow Your Heart

This should be run a proper price and looking at entries, those at the front will likely be the market leaders. This horse should be held up out the back and should be there at the finish. Justcallmepete may tighten up for the run and I think the jury is still out on The Caltonian staying 7 furlongs.


No AW racing Sunday and a poor card Monday means that's it for this week, unfortunately, or maybe fortunately depending on how the results go. We've a few bets to go in the eyecatcher's group in the Whatsapp community so eyes on that.

The Neighsayers - Friday 13th September

  No blog yesterday for the first day of the Leger meeting, mainly due to uncertainty around the ground we were getting. We’re back for day 2 though. 15:00 Doncaster - Big Mojo A lot to like about this horses chance today, starting with the drop back to minimum trip, showed his usual pace at York but failed to stay. Looks to be plenty of pace on in here too with Aesterius drawn on his side and then King’s Call, Zayer and Tropical Storm over the other side. If he sit’s just off these and strikes late he should emulate last year’s success for connections with Big Evs. A somewhat shock winner at Goodwood but should that was no fluke when running a good race at York when not staying as I’ve mentioned.  Selection - Big Mojo 5/2 General - 1pt win 16:10 Doncaster - Beatrice Shilling This favourite, Cabrera has to be taken on for me. The Neighsayers - Thursday 5th September

 Nice to get on the board for September yesterday with Snow Berry winning at 15/2 (or 9/1 if you had the luxury), but with the 2pt bet going down it wasn't as good as we'd hoped for, but profit on the day nevertheless. 17:35 Lingfield - Ormolulu Think this is well worth an each way bet now seeing 7 furlongs for the first time and returning to the all-weather. Dropped down in the handicap considerably this year, beginning on 79 and comes here off 70 with the jockey claiming 3. This is the lowest grade of race she's ever contested too, being a 51-70 and now in a fillies only race that can only be a positive too. The favourite takes up a lot of the market here and he's not guaranteed to get his own way in front this time, with Twilight Dancer and Beveragino in the race and I think he's well worth taking on. She was keen in her 3 year old campaign but the hood seemed to have worked the oracle there and hopefully can continue to do so with the slower tempo of a 6 furlong...
