The Neighsayers - The Week Ahead 06/03/2024

Well, 2 steps forward, 1 step back… another blank week last week (0-5) after a very successful week prior to that. Hoping that can all change starting tonight at Kempton and get us travelling strong early.

Wednesday 


18:00 Kempton - Supreme King


Thought it spoke volumes they sent this horse off a well backed favourite vs a horse that had won 3 on the spin. Was looked over when beaten and just pushed out close home. Back on a more galloping track should see him to better affect that a tight track like wolves. 


Thursday


16:30 Lingfield - Moorgate


Slowly away and then came wide on the home turn last time. Strong pace would benefit this horse and should get that here. Red Walls, Lynwood Lad and Hannah’s Return likely to go forward.


Friday


18:00 Newcastle - Nazca


Was on the back foot from the start the last day being squeezed out and taken back. Ended up making his challenge widest of all coming round his rivals and probably got to the front just too soon. Not sure that mistake will be made again here.


19:30 Newcastle - Lahab


Nice pipe opener for new connections mid January over a shorter than ideal distance. Goes up in trip here which looks to suit on pedigree and running style. Is entered up into the Lincoln but may have to settle for the spring mile of this mark.


Saturday


17:00 Wolverhampton - Quiet Resolve


This is a very nice horse and should be able to make mince meat of a mark of 78. Race could cut up significantly with 2 entered here due to run at Lingfield tomorrow.


19:00 Chelmsford - The Defiant


Is well handicapped on old form, last two winning marks were 69 and 68, races off 62 here. Race could cut up with a few entered elsewhere and could be a good opportunity.


Sunday 


19:00 Southwell - Chasseral


Has ran well fresh before and kept decent company over 6 furlongs last year. New stable here and they’re a gambling one so market watch needed. Lost her way last year but I think that was more down to trip.

Not currently Jocked up and stable’s other runner is, but that could all change… worth tracking if not declared.


Monday


18:00 Wolverhampton - Teresa Grace


Will definitely reassess this one after declarations but she’s ran very well the last twice, particularly at Southwell last time when the front two were plenty clear of the remainder, eased close home when couldn’t win. Should continue that vein of form here.


19:30 Wolverhampton - Algheed


Carrying her form well this winter and would’ve beaten the winner if met on better terms last week when she ran (Winner had 14lb age allowance). 4YO+ race her so that’s out the equation again and should go close.

The Neighsayers - Friday 13th September

  No blog yesterday for the first day of the Leger meeting, mainly due to uncertainty around the ground we were getting. We’re back for day 2 though. 15:00 Doncaster - Big Mojo A lot to like about this horses chance today, starting with the drop back to minimum trip, showed his usual pace at York but failed to stay. Looks to be plenty of pace on in here too with Aesterius drawn on his side and then King’s Call, Zayer and Tropical Storm over the other side. If he sit’s just off these and strikes late he should emulate last year’s success for connections with Big Evs. A somewhat shock winner at Goodwood but should that was no fluke when running a good race at York when not staying as I’ve mentioned.  Selection - Big Mojo 5/2 General - 1pt win 16:10 Doncaster - Beatrice Shilling This favourite, Cabrera has to be taken on for me. The Neighsayers - Thursday 5th September

 Nice to get on the board for September yesterday with Snow Berry winning at 15/2 (or 9/1 if you had the luxury), but with the 2pt bet going down it wasn't as good as we'd hoped for, but profit on the day nevertheless. 17:35 Lingfield - Ormolulu Think this is well worth an each way bet now seeing 7 furlongs for the first time and returning to the all-weather. Dropped down in the handicap considerably this year, beginning on 79 and comes here off 70 with the jockey claiming 3. This is the lowest grade of race she's ever contested too, being a 51-70 and now in a fillies only race that can only be a positive too. The favourite takes up a lot of the market here and he's not guaranteed to get his own way in front this time, with Twilight Dancer and Beveragino in the race and I think he's well worth taking on. She was keen in her 3 year old campaign but the hood seemed to have worked the oracle there and hopefully can continue to do so with the slower tempo of a 6 furlong...
