The Neighsayers - (Un)Floodlit Friday 01/03/24

Not quite floodlit Friday today as we're focusing on Lingfield, the day time meeting where there's some very good action and plenty of pointers towards AW Finals day on the 29th March.

14:02 Lingfield - 7f handicap

Sticking with one here, Cloud Cover got back to winning ways last time out in impressive fashion given how much she did wrong that day. She was so keen in a small field and a slow pace and her head carriage looked unusually awkward too. She's likely to be seen to much better affect today, with the bigger field and likely stronger pace.

Radio Goo Goo will try to make all and then plenty of these will likely want to track the leader but with only really 2 track positions to play with before you feel uncomfortably wide, I can see a couple being keen and trying to push on too. Kitai, Premiere Beauty, Incrimination, Aramis Grey, Shades of Summer and Torchlight likely to be vying for those 2 spots so it could become messy, but the selection should be out the back and out of trouble.

Selection - Cloud Cover (5/2 Bet365, William Hill) 1pt win

15:12 Lingfield - 5f handicap

Fascinating, trappy sprint handicap here for older horses. Silky Wilkie is the selection here, he's done plenty of winning over 5f but mainly on turf, when it comes to the AW and particularly round here I think 6f is his bag. Thought he'd ran respectably in pattern company last year but the handicapper has now given him a chance back on a double figure mark, just... having been has high as 110 last year.

Night on Earth likely to be prominent with the selection, but over 6f I wouldn't say that's certain and Flaming Rib maybe forced to take his medicine from stall 10. I think the selection has a great EW chance here.

Selection - Silky Wilkie EW (8/1 Bet365, Paddy Power, 15/2 Betfair, 13/2 General ALL 4pl) 0.5pt EW

15:47 Lingfield - 2m handicap

Largely consistent and relatively unexposed on the AW gives plenty of optimism for Spirit Mixer to run a big race today. He has ran well fresh without going close to winning but that doesn't concern me as he's improved markedly over the last couple of seasons. I had him penned in for a Royal Ascot handicap after his reappearance at Musselburgh last April but obviously has had his issues since then. He was better than ever on the AW when 2nd in the Northumberland Vase back in 2022 and that would give him a right chance here.

Could be another messy race with plenty wanting to be front rank in this but hopefully we can steer clear and come home fast.

Selection - Spirit Mixer EW (12/1 William Hill 4pl, 10 General 4pl, 9/1 Bet365 4pl) 0.5pt EW
