The Neighsayers - The Flat is Back

After a longggg winter, we’re back on the turf and it’s great to say that. Now always tricky with the ground being what it is but hopefully we’ve found a few that will go in the slop.

14.25 - William Hill Epic Boost Spring Mile

This wouldn’t usually be the type of race I’d put up a horse at the top of the market but the Julie Camacho trained Titian ticks all the boxes here. High Draws have been the advantage over the straight in recent seasons at Donny, with Stall 18 being Titians draw. Back on his last winning mark, and 2lb lower than when 2nd in this race last season, I think Titian can go one better here on what looks a tough card for the season opener.

Selection - Titian EW (7/1 Bet365, Coral,Ladbrokes, 13/2 General - 5 place with most firms)

15:00 - Cammidge Trophy

Dropping back to 6f looks to have been making of MONTASSIB who is now open to any amount of improvement at his new trip. His first try at the distance resulted in a 5th placed finish in one of the most competitive sprint handicaps of the year the Ayr Gold Cup. On this occasion he found himself in the midsts of some seasoned campaigners such as Significantly and Albasheer who he would then dispose of convincingly when landing the Coral Sprint Trophy at York only a month later.

A winner on soft ground now stepping into listed company for the first time, the long galloping straight at Doncaster (much like York) can play to his strengths and with so much untapped potential as a Sprinter, under the tutelage of William Haggas, he looks a definite bet to me at the prices.

Selection - Montassib (7/2, 100/30 general)

15:35 - Lincon Handicap

THUNDER BALL massively improved from 2 to 3 and that gave every indication that would continue into his 4 year old campaign. Caught everyone’s eye when beating the well touted Equatorial at Newbury before running a monster 4th in the Britannia on less than ideal ground.
When he got the soft ground he loves, he won twice both at Goodwood so there maybe a case of horses for courses but I think he is an ideal Lincoln horse.

The draw is a slight negative but with the 2NR’s tonight lessens that negative. He likes to be prominent without having to leave, so should be able to get the best possible position to do himself justice.

Like the claimer they’ve thrown on here, he’s improved loads in the last couple of seasons and think he should go close in the champion apprentice title, but back to this horse, Voikhansky has won on this horse last time out so should know him well enough to get the best out of him.

Selection - Thunder Ball EW (12/1 Bet365, 11/1 William Hill 6pl)
