The Neighsayers - The Week Ahead 7/2/24
First of all, can only apologise for the blank week last week, wasn't the greatest weeks racing but we were still happy to bet what we did and that's just the way the cookie crumbled. It had to happen eventually. Also, apologies this is a day late but couldn't be helped.
Wednesday
17:30 Kempton - Fiddler's Elbow
Definition of bumping into one last time, if horses run how they did in maiden/novice events, should get a decent set up. I'd make him clear fav here.
19:00 Kempton - Greatgadian
Ran a belting race last time over 7 furlongs at Southwell, being the only one in the first 5 to make up any ground from the rear and the front 2 were prominent throughout. He's back to his favoured trip today and Oisin booked can only be a positive...
19:30 Kempton - Martini Lodge
Could outrun his huge odds. Has ran well in 2 starts over 7f here, being by Muharaar, the mile trip should suit well. Did have 1 start over a mile in a kempton handicap but that was a 46-65. Today is a 46-55 but when horses are rated as lowly as this, options are thin...
Thursday
16:25 Doncaster
The previously mentioned Sainitiser goes here after the meeting being abandoned last time we put him up, was well backed in the early prices that day so can’t see the bookies taking many chances but hopefully be odds against At least, should be winning this on his flat form, was a massive eyecatcher on his last start being properly stopped. Hopefully this meeting survives the snow snow forecast Thursday.
16:10 Lingfield - Larado
Is well handicapped on ratings and showed a pretty good return to form last time when trying to make all. Hard place to do at Southwell but Lingfield should suit better. Could face pace pressure from Smart Deal though.
16:45 Lingfield - Harb
Should get a decent race set up here, sitting mid-division off a strong pace. Re-opposes with Night On Earth but is 5lb better off now. Back to a mark where he's been in and around when winning his 3 handicaps.
Friday
17:07 Wolves - Triple Jaye
Has to be well handicapped now, has won his only previous classified race some time ago now but has won off handicap marks as high as 67 & 65. Has shown plenty enough to still be encouraged in handicaps, travelling strongly. Should go well in this lesser opposition.
Saturday
15:15 Newbury - Tellherthename
The Betfair hurdle is one of the most competitive handicaps in the Calendar with a number of unexposed challengers from both sides of the Irish Sea looking to take home the prize. Novices historically have a tremendous record in the race and my selection Tellherthename falls right into this category.
The handicapper is giving him a massive chance in this contest off a mark of 135 with his nose defeat behind subsequent Grade 1 winner Jango Baie representing an excellent piece of form. You can completely discount his run in the aforementioned Grade 1 at Christmas as he lost his action in the testing Aintree ground and has since indicated to us that run will just be an anamoly with a 14 length thrashing of albeit inferior rivals at Huntingdon in January. Everything suggests to me that the Ben Pauling trained gelding could be well ahead of his mark and be the stereotypical graded horse in a handicap. The booking of Harry Cobden is a serious statement of intent and securing the services of the best jockey this side of the water shows just what they think of his chances. One caveat to this is however the weather as the Trainer has stated he will only run the horse on good ground, with the forecast not looking too pleasant at Newbury as the weekend approaches there is a possibility that he doesn’t take up this assignment. For this reason we’ll keep an eye on the situation as the week progresses and if the weather gods are shining in our favour he’ll be a definite bet in the race.
20:00 Wolves - Furzig
Is a very good horse in this grade and showed enough recently to suggest a win is close. Is declared tomorrow however, so will see what happens with that.
Sunday
13:57 Lingfield - Repartee
Should've won earlier this week but went too wide off the bend and gave up vital ground. Early jockey booking suggests Oisin will ride. Will be having a good bet on this should the race set up suit.
14:27 Lingfield - Ten O'clock
Turned out to be a decent enough race for the grade, winner won and place since, 2nd bolted up last night. Saffie wasn't overly busy in the saddle here, did see 2 goes of the whip between the 2 & the 1 pole then hands and heels home. Could run much better here.
Monday
19:30 Wolves - Dembe
Another that's incredibly well handicapped, drop in grade a major positive and back on his 2nd winning mark which he made a mockery of. Market will tell the story here.
