The Neighsayers - The Week Ahead 14/2/24

 Another slighty losing week last week, finishing on -0.5 pts at SP, with just the 1 winner being Larado, but on another week, could've easily been 3 or 4. Let's hope that week is this week...

Wednesday

19:00 Kempton - Fivethousandtoone

He's got a better chance here than his name suggests... should be a decent pace on which brings him into play late on. Chipstead will go forward, Batal Dubai will be prominent and has been keen along with Blind Beggar too. Should be arriving fast and late. Longer straight will suit more than somewhere like Lingfield has done.

Thursday

15:47 Southwell - Northern Spirit

Have no qualms he's well handicapped, given his form in higher grades. Should be okay of what's likely a steady pace. She's Centimental will go forward but can be keen, Seven Brothers has fared best for old connections from the front, Sluzewiec also has race prominently before, but second guessing Dixon will leave you in the poor house. 

16:53 Southwell - Daytona Beach

Has shown she can win over trips, given she's a bumper winner. Has shown a bit more than her mark suggests I think in 3 quick flat novice's, over inferior trips. Hiked straight up to 12 furlongs and I can't not bet.

20:30 Chelmsford - Jenson Benson

Has only ever won round here, once over C&D and 3 times over shorter. Last twice he's ran well, particularly last time over a very inadequate 7 furlongs for him these days. Tactically versatile but I'm hoping he'll sit behind At Liberty and Zooks. Could also set up for Curtiz, who I rate the danger.

Friday

16:40 Wolves - Alfadhal

Absolute genius from Rossa to get this up last time from a car park draw. Won cosily enough after being tight for room too. 3lb rise lenient I'd say.

Saturday 

17:15 Wolves - Majed 

Likely a short favourite here but should be winning this. Showed more than enough in maiden company to suggest he can win off this sort of mark. 

18:30 Newcastle - Water of Leith

Long time readers of our blogs will know this horse is a stalwart in them. Somehow managed to win cosily over 5f at Southwell before Christmas. 6f definitely more his bag, could have any amount in hand still, if the handbrakes off...

19:45 Wolves - Kingdom Come

I'm sure Wigmore Street will be all the rage here but I'm happy to take a chance against him with the selection here. Unbeaten on the All-Weather and has shown capable fresh, I've no doubt he's being readied towards an AW finals day appearance.

20:15 Wolves - David's Diva 

Won with any amount in hand last time and should resume that form here if declared.

Sunday

20:30 Kempton - Dubawi Time

Has shown bits to suggest he can win, particularly up in trip which he gets here. Would've preferred to see him gelded but it's a modest race. Market watch on Jailbird if declared against.

Monday

14:17 Lingfield - Ten O'clock

Don't need to say much here if you read last week's edition... Can win off an unchanged 45 here.

20:00 Wolves - Northbound

Decent run last time out. Never nearer 3rd against two rivals who made all. Could get a nice price...

The Neighsayers - Friday 13th September

  No blog yesterday for the first day of the Leger meeting, mainly due to uncertainty around the ground we were getting. We’re back for day 2 though. 15:00 Doncaster - Big Mojo A lot to like about this horses chance today, starting with the drop back to minimum trip, showed his usual pace at York but failed to stay. Looks to be plenty of pace on in here too with Aesterius drawn on his side and then King’s Call, Zayer and Tropical Storm over the other side. If he sit’s just off these and strikes late he should emulate last year’s success for connections with Big Evs. A somewhat shock winner at Goodwood but should that was no fluke when running a good race at York when not staying as I’ve mentioned.  Selection - Big Mojo 5/2 General - 1pt win 16:10 Doncaster - Beatrice Shilling This favourite, Cabrera has to be taken on for me. The Neighsayers - Thursday 5th September

 Nice to get on the board for September yesterday with Snow Berry winning at 15/2 (or 9/1 if you had the luxury), but with the 2pt bet going down it wasn't as good as we'd hoped for, but profit on the day nevertheless. 17:35 Lingfield - Ormolulu Think this is well worth an each way bet now seeing 7 furlongs for the first time and returning to the all-weather. Dropped down in the handicap considerably this year, beginning on 79 and comes here off 70 with the jockey claiming 3. This is the lowest grade of race she's ever contested too, being a 51-70 and now in a fillies only race that can only be a positive too. The favourite takes up a lot of the market here and he's not guaranteed to get his own way in front this time, with Twilight Dancer and Beveragino in the race and I think he's well worth taking on. She was keen in her 3 year old campaign but the hood seemed to have worked the oracle there and hopefully can continue to do so with the slower tempo of a 6 furlong...
