The Neighsayers - Floodlit Friday 16/02/2024
It's been a quiet few weeks in terms of friday's and the AW action but we have two tomorrow we rate decent chances, as well as the week ahead runner if you haven't seen that already, sorry for the shameless plug...
18:30 Dundalk - Smart Impression
Has pretty decent form as a 2yo lasy year, including 7th in a group 3, only beaten ~7.5L. He's shown a taking to the AW being placed 4th here at Dundalk over both 5 and 6 furlongs. He caught they aye last time having been slow away on his first start since late august, so a bit of ring rust can be excused.
He reoppose's with Coulsty on the back of that, who I rate the danger here but think we should have him covered despite being a couple of lb worse off. I think SMART IMPRESSION will improve more than that with the step up in trip and benefit of the run.
Slight negative, the dam never produced a winner, however a caveat is that one was running over a trip that wasn't suited to the family and the other sibling was still rated as high as 76. So had ability.
I think this could be over looked in the market and I'm happy to play here.
Selection - Smart Impression 6/1 Bet365, Paddy Power, Sky Bet
18:45 Wolves - Al Rufaa
Was excited when this joined the Kubler yard, given their track record of seemingly improving older horses. Was very impressive when winning on stable debut over a furlong shorter but the trip shouldn't be an issue here.
I always like this horse coming off a decent pace and should get that here, as many as 4 possible front runners here, who are all drawn wider than him, so I'm expecting a rush on to the first bend and we get a nice chance to settle. Wadacre Gomez, Forca Timao, Aikhal and Polling Day could contest it, drawn 9,10,8,7 respectively.
I think there's still a decent chance off a mark of 88 and saw the Kubler's mention a possible tilt out in the middle east this winter, whether that's on the cards or not still, I'd be unaware but gives me confidence in the selection.
Selection - Al Rufaa 5/2 General
