The Neighsayers - Floodlit Friday Week10
Floodlit Friday – Week
6:30 Wolverhampton – 1m6f Handicap
Wanted to target this race as on paper I didn’t think it held much depth and with plenty of very moderate types rocking up, I found it hard to look away from the stable switcher GENTLE FIRE on her first run for James Evans. Lightly raced 8yo who won this race last year in facile fashion (Well bet), expected her to kick on into the 60s but didn’t get her head Infront after that. She ran a very good race under this rider in September 2023, where she finished 4th running on late. That run showed enough to suggest she’s still in love with the game and that a big performance could be right around the corner.
She comes here of a 95-day break, what I see as a bonus as I believe she is best when fresh. The strong travelling mare should be able to cruise into contention and hopefully put the race to bed with her rather decent turn of foot (for a 50 rated yoke). Jockey claiming 3lb is a complete steal and she has to be Primed for a big run. Struggle to see her out the places back up in trip.
Selection – Gentle Fire EW (14/1 General)
7:30 Wolverhampton – 5f Classified
Scrap metal stuff here but what’s not to love about a competitive classified at Wolves. Many interesting horses in here but it was the Stella Barclay trained BASHOLO who came out on top for me. Landed a huge punt at Redcar early season and looked to have bits in hand to go on and progress into better than a Classified horse. This never materialised but he did show decent enough form at higher levels, with 2 placed efforts over both 5&6f.
What interests me here is the drop back into Classified company, a grade he is 1/1 in. I think this will have been the plan all along from this shrewd outfit, and I could defiantly see a well bet BASHOLO going close here. Showed he retains all ability LTO, when given a complete float up from off the pace, never knocked about but ran on well enough. Effectively races off 45 here with the jockey claim, let’s hope he doesn’t make a balls of things and can ride him like he did at Redcar. Must go well in this grade, with connections more than likely eyeing up a double on the card.
Selection – Basholo (7/2 General)
