Weekly Eye-Catchers 30TH Oct – 5th Nov 2023

30th October – 2:50 Galway

Nawraq

Nice enough comeback after a year off the track. Drawn in 18 made tasks very hard to be handy, got there eventually but was always wide covering plenty of ground in the process. Shocked was only beaten 5l in the end, and it was a very nice comeback. TP headgear combo looked to work a treat, will back in future if nice draw on tight tracks.

30th October – 4:50 Newcastle

Swift Storm

Nice debut, travelled well if not overaced slightly at times. Went to make challenged but no run, switched inside and ran on very well. Jockey and horse both looked to shit them self abit when going for gap late but was a nice enough run-on debut. Should be winning a maiden nto.

31st October - 12:20 Curragh

Babyface

Showed enough here (in what looks a deep maiden) to suggest he has enough ability to work with. Travelling well slightly off the pace, held together but never exactly picked up once asked, more than likely blew up whilst not really staying. Ground isn’t a problem, would like to see him step back down in trip to 5f, has a nice cruising speed to get into races and hopefully pick a few up.

1st November – 5:15 Kempton

Kathmandu

Well bred type from a yard who’s horses most likely will come on for a debut. Restrained in rear, travelled well into the straight but very far back and not put in the race till too late. Did nice late work down the outside and was nearest the finish. I can imagine this horse is a 100+ one and should be winning NTO.

3rd November – 5:30 Dundalk

Sam’s Xpress

Huge run here against big bias. Him and Betrayed set mental fractions out in front, it was only a matter of time that they both dropped away buy Sam’s Xpress stayed on grimly and was only run down in the final half a furlong. He should have been out the back of the TV with the pace he went. I’d be very keen to keep him onside over 5f at Dundalk this winter.

3rd November – 6:30 Dundalk

Swan Band

Nice run here after 104 days off, missed break slightly, held up in rear, made stylish headway into place contention but was ultimately too far back and gave up vital track position to better fancied rivals. Will come on for that run and should be hard to beat nto in maidens.

5th November – 3:55 Lingfield

Ajrad

Very poorly judged ride. Clearly wasn’t off here. Tanked out the back, went for a run on the inside, was never going to get a run, should have come round outside and came over the top like he did in his last C&D win. On a very low mark now and providing that hes trying to win, should be winning over 7f at Lingfield soon.
