Liked this pre off after promising debut, missed it slightly and dropped in, travelling nicely out the back and try’s to go inside behind a wall of horses, was never going to get a run, finished on the bridle not knocked about. Could have easily won that race with a better trip. I’ll be following up next time and into handicaps if she’s not off in 3rd run.

 

28th September – 4:30 Pontefract

Looked like the gelding operation has done its job, settled much better here, travelling well on inside, made challenge on far side rail what was dead ground all day, ran on but rolled about when tackling the undulations, ran on well enough. Never looked at home on the track and would prefer better ground. Hood might have settled him too well, wouldn’t mind it being left off and letting him run slightly. 6f on a flat track will be ideal this year. 

 

28th September – 5:18 Newmarket 

 

Ey Up It’s the Boss

 

Much better run than what the form book will tell you, held up in rear, travelling well behind horses but no run repeatedly, did get room late and ran on strongly, had plenty left in the tank here and should be kept onside.

 

29th September – 8:00 Newcastle

Horse I never took to when owned by previous connections but has seemed to look like his old self since the Wind op. Was unlucky loser here, stopped in run and caught too far back, hands and heels in the final furlong, should have won in my opinion. Will pick up plenty of races this AW season over 7-8f, hes in very good order.

The Neighsayers - Friday 13th September

  No blog yesterday for the first day of the Leger meeting, mainly due to uncertainty around the ground we were getting. We’re back for day 2 though. 15:00 Doncaster - Big Mojo A lot to like about this horses chance today, starting with the drop back to minimum trip, showed his usual pace at York but failed to stay. Looks to be plenty of pace on in here too with Aesterius drawn on his side and then King’s Call, Zayer and Tropical Storm over the other side. If he sit’s just off these and strikes late he should emulate last year’s success for connections with Big Evs. A somewhat shock winner at Goodwood but should that was no fluke when running a good race at York when not staying as I’ve mentioned.  Selection - Big Mojo 5/2 General - 1pt win 16:10 Doncaster - Beatrice Shilling This favourite, Cabrera has to be taken on for me.  Nice to get on the board for September yesterday with Snow Berry winning at 15/2 (or 9/1 if you had the luxury), but with the 2pt bet going down it wasn't as good as we'd hoped for, but profit on the day nevertheless. 17:35 Lingfield - Ormolulu Think this is well worth an each way bet now seeing 7 furlongs for the first time and returning to the all-weather. Dropped down in the handicap considerably this year, beginning on 79 and comes here off 70 with the jockey claiming 3. This is the lowest grade of race she's ever contested too, being a 51-70 and now in a fillies only race that can only be a positive too. The favourite takes up a lot of the market here and he's not guaranteed to get his own way in front this time, with Twilight Dancer and Beveragino in the race and I think he's well worth taking on. She was keen in her 3 year old campaign but the hood seemed to have worked the oracle there and hopefully can continue to do so with the slower tempo of a 6 furlong...
