The Neighsayers Weekly Eye-Catcher’s 9th – 15th October 2023

11th October – 1:50 Punchestown

Schiehallion

Rare NH Eye-Catcher for you. Nice not off here, jumping was okay but had room for improvement, travelled well enough and when ‘making effort’, jockey didn’t have much of a connection with the horse, struggled to keep him straight whilst driving forward. Manoeuvred behind horses coming to the last suggesting he didn’t want him going too close. Could only suggest a bet in maidens if a proper jockey is on at a lesser track. If not, wait for handicaps.

11th October – 2:02 Nottingham

Finn Ironside

Didn’t escape the eyes of the stewards, was called in after a kid glove ride. Travelling in rear, going well enough but never knocked about. Did look slightly unbalanced on the track but showed more than enough to suggest he has a moderate level of ability. May be asked to have another run for a mark. Be good guesswork to figure out when this will be off, will be wise to follow the money.

11th October – 5:25 Kempton

City Of Delight

Don’t know what the form will be worth here but was very hard not to be taken by the effort from this one. Hopelessly detached in rear, no clear run behind toiling rivals, quickened past beaten horses very easily with loads of running left, finished with more left in a distant 4th. Mark wise id be looking to keep this onside off 70 or lower, not fully shown his hand yet this one.

11th October – 6:00 Kempton

Thunderous Love

Nice run for a mark, held up in rear, some slight headway but never knocked about and didn’t fully stay. I’d be interested on these off marks 62 or lower, looks to enjoy the surface at Kempton but doesn’t look like too many races for him over 7f. 1st November 0-75 Nursery, could sneak in off bottom weight.

12th October – 3:35 Curragh

Time To Tell

Really nice debut from this one, weak in the market but showed a very nice level of ability. travelled easily on the outside, made sweeping move round the outside, clocking very fast F9 and F10, back on the bridle at the 2 pole but couldn’t run down a more experienced horse with a better track position. Big move may have too abit out of him in the finish but not to worry, great debut. Maidens over 1m2-1m4 should be a walk in the park. Good orse.

12th October – 8:30 Chelmsford

Mhajim

Definition of ‘Not Off’ . Dropped in last, a good 12l off the leader, has had trouble settling on previous runs but the 1st time hood test was passed with flying colours today as he settled very nicely in rear. 3f out the triers are hard at work cos the front runner has tried to slip them, but Joey didn’t want to get too busy encase he got too close. Hands and heels up the straight run-on past some beaten horses but didn’t come out of 2nd gear. Improved for the hood so I hope they retain it for next time. May get dropped 2lb if hes lucky, allowing him to drop into 0-60 company, a level where he would pose a serious class edge over his rivals. A few targets for him in early November at Lingfield and Chelmsford over 1m2f, a trip what I think is his optimum.

13th October – 8:00 Newcastle

Brother Dave

Held up in rear, made challenged standside, ran on well but clearly today wasn’t the day, jockey didn’t really put much effort in when running on late. Ran on for a very decent 4th. After a long time off the track id say he will improve significantly for this run and will be cherry ripe in a few weeks’ time. Being a half-brother to Bobby Joe Leg, they will know how to get the best out of him. Same connections won a monthly AW bonus with the aforementioned horse, this will be another similar type.

14th October – 2:15 Naas

Bid For Chester

Nice run in first time toungestrap, held up in rear, no room on inside when travelling well, switched wide outside, ran on very strongly but was hindered by track position and trip. Consistent horse and should be followed into handicaps if his mark isn’t blown.
