The Neighsayers - Saturday 28th October
With abandonments galore, it’s made a hard time of things in terms of spotting potential bets, however the jumps lads are relishing these conditions and Swanny and Elliot have found 3 bets for today’s racing.
1:15 Cheltenham
In the opener on Saturday I’m siding with the Gary Moore trained Haddex des obeaux, a rapid improver last season under front running tactics, made mince meat of a mark of 136 last time out and I can’t see a 10lb rise stopping him, think he could hold his own in the 2 mile graded races this season so 146 should be fine. There has been some cash already but the 5/2 generally available is still fair and he’s a bet for me.
Haddex Des Obeaux 5/2
1:50 Cheltenham
Another fav in the masterton holdings (Shock) but Blueking D’oroux should just be too good for these in my opinion. Sent off 6/4 fav for the triumph trial on UK debut last season before being pulled up shows he was highly thought of , although he was the beaten fav again round Taunton over Xmas he then picked up a decent ascot juvenile handicap at 50/1 before a massive run coming second against the older horses at Aintree.Beaten 3 lengths by a solid older horse in Punctuation is form miles above anything in this race has done so he should be winning this.
Blue king D’oroux 11/8
15.00 - Cheltenham
The first Pertemps Qualifier of the season and a race where most NH fans will look long term into the horses “running into a place”, I’m keen on the David Pipe trained Bashful Boy. This horse has shown promise in both its Hurdling and Flat career, having been kept busy over both codes in the summer.
He was last seen coming 4th in the cesarewitch at a whopping 100/1, shaping well after coming 5th in the trial. Over hurdles, he dotted up off 117 at Newton Abbot, before meeting interference at Fontwell, eased down after travelling strongly and having major excuses. I believe he was going to be bang there come the finish that day.
I don’t believe the current mark of 125 is the ceiling for this horse. Although I am wary of a couple of the Irish raiders, I think Bashful Boys recent race fitness could play a huge factor in him being in the frame here, and I think the price on offer is a nice each way price.
The Pipe Team will be looking to kickstart their season this weekend and I’m hoping this lad is bang there.
Bashful Boy 14/1 EW (5)
Go safe with your punting today and good luck!
