The Neighsayers - Weekly Eye-Catchers 18th - 24th September 2023
Weekly Eye-Catcher’s 18th – September 2023
18th September – 6:00 Kempton
Vultar
Ran well from impossible position, travelled well in rear but was given far too much to do, stayed on well late, shaping like a step back up in trip would suit. His debut form is working out very well, and I’ll be looking to follow him into handicaps off marks in the 80s. 7f+ looks more his bag.
19th September – 3:00 Redcar
Garifullina
Nice run here over a trip what may have been on the sharp side, draw was against her from the start, had to track across forfeiting ground. Ran on strongly once in the clear. I’ll look to back her over 6f with abit of cut in the ground.
19th September – 4:10 Redcar
Khabib
Starting to look nicely handicapped now, travelled well on stand side, made decent move to hit the front but in my opinion, he doesn’t get 6f on this ground. I’ll be looking to back him when he drops back to 5f. Could be an Arc AW bonus type.
21st September – 2:35 Pontefract
Golden Strike
Nice debut, slow away, veered right jockey did well to sit, raced in rear slightly fresh, travelling well and made good ground when asked, not clear passage had to weave in and out, stayed on for 3rd. Nice introduction and would have learnt a lot here. Look to back NTO, odds may be skinny unfortunately.
22nd September – 4:55 Dundalk
Bobbys Glory
Down the field in both runs to date but I have spotted glimpses of promise in both runs. Showed speed/ability amidst greenness, travelling well but not finding at the business end, clearly lacking fitness. What interest me with this one is the same connections had the half-sister Wakai Umi, who was a very similar type, and she dotted in on handicap debut, making a mockery of her mark. I’d say this horse is a very similar project and he should be followed into Nursery.
23rd September – 3:35 Ayr
Escobar
Nice enough run over inadequate trip for the old boy, showed he retains ability after some questionable runs early season. Outpaced in rear, ran on late, only beaten 3 ¾L what’s a very decent effort from 6lb out the weights. I think this prep is perfect for him as it sharpens him up for an Autumn campaign. We saw last year a very similar prep leading up to the Challenge Cup at Ascot, a handicap he bolted up in last year off a mark of 107, Hes now down to a mark of 94 and starting to look significantly well handicapped. 33/1 is available for the Challenge Cup what is massively overpriced in my book. I’d be keen to take that. If all doesn’t work in the Challenge Cup, I’ll be following up in the Balmoral Handicap on Champions Day. Strong fancy at the current Antepost prices, money back if balloted out.
23rd September – 4:20 York
Zargun
Ran with enough promise here off a 351-day break, showed loads of speed for most of the trip but took a nice blow in final 2f weakening out of things. Jockey bookings and price today suggested that today’s run will have been needed. He will get a few lb back for that, putting him spot on for the 76-95 5F handicap at York on the 13th October. Will need to win that to get in the Catterick Dash later in the month, a race he has already won before. Should come good in October.
