The Neighsayers - Antepost Angle
Thanks to all the existing followers for all our recent support and welcome to all our new ones, it’s been a very good month so far and we hope to take it into our local meeting, The Leger Festival. Here’s 4 Antepost bets ahead of the week that we like, in a very limited pool of races. Let’s get into it.
1:50 Doncaster (Thursday) – 6 ½f Nursery
Valuable Nursery on the first day of the St Leger festival, obviously attracts a nice enough field with the 25k looking rather appealing for connections. Plenty of inform filly’s in here but many have multiple entry’s, potentially leading to some of the market principles going elsewhere. The one for me in here now is the George Margeson trained JUMEIRAH BREEZE, after she went into many people’s notebooks after a fast-finishing 2nd behind the progressive Seven Questions.
She has shown quiet a lot of ability on most of her starts, her debut was a nice education for her over the C&D she will be running over on Thursday. Then she was much improved on her 2nd start where she was only beaten by a Godolphin hotpot, who ran well in G3 event NTO. Bare result of 3rd start looks disappointing, but that race is working out very well, with the winner now being a G3 winner, the 3rd was placed in the G1 Moyglare stakes on the weekend, 4th 8th and 9th all winning races since giving this novice great substance on form alone.
Her handicap/Nursery debut was promising also, traveling fresh enough, finishing her race off with promising back-end sectional. She gets an extra half a furlong to work with here and I feel that may be the difference between her running well and winning. She is currently priced up with 365 at 20/1, an pure insulting prize for a Filly who hold standout novice form. She looks progressive in my eyes, and I can only see her going close here.
Selection – Jumeirah Breeze 20/1 EW (365)
3:35 Doncaster (Thursday) - May Hill Stakes
We were at Doncaster the day Sea Theme won her novice and said at the time the race would be one too follow as there was some picturesque fillies in the parade ring, with plenty of room for improvement and that’s just what SEA THEME has done.
She needed every yard of the mile and a half trip at York getting up close home, giving every indication this step up in trip will suit and she’ll be fine on any ground so there’s no reason she doesn’t turn up unless anything untoward happened this week.
She’s better off at the weights than her elders and I don’t think the York race was the greatest in terms of quality but she showed her quality winning over an inadequate trip and here over further, she should improve again. One Evening re-opposes from York but over this trip SEA THEME should confirm the form.
There’s been an interesting market move for Lumiere Rock this week but having won only yesterday at the Curragh, I can’t see her coming to Doncaster. Sumo Sam won a farcical race at Goodwood and if repeating those actions but hopefully some other pace is drawn in the race.
Selection - Sea Theme EW (6/1 Bet365, 5/1 General)
2:25 Doncaster (Friday) - Flying Childers Stakes
My antepost Selection for This weeks St Leger Festival comes in the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes. The horse I’m siding with is the Karl Burke trained, DAWN CHARGER.
The horse had a relatively busy start to the season, opening his account with a solid debut 2nd at Pontefract before 2 wins at Ascot and Carlisle, both at short odds. He then lined up in the Albany at the Royal Meeting, finishing a solid 7th after showing bags of early speed, just fading out of the places. The step up to 6f against classier rivals than her win at Carlisle didn’t suit that day.
After a 69 day break, she was last seen a couple of weeks ago back over 5f in a Group 3 contest at Longchamp. That day she showed bags of speed and just went down in the closing finish to Tiger Belle, trained by Adrian Mcguinnes, known over the pond for his brilliant sprinters. I was very impressed with her that day, and she looked as tho she was always getting there, going past at the line.
A return to the UK over 5f in this Childers looks a solid EW bet for me, she will suit the galloping straight at Doncaster and with some showers around this week, I believe we will have the softer side of Good come Friday, this will be perfect conditions for the horse.
Selection - Dawn Charger EW (9/1 Bet365, 8/1 General)
3:35 Doncaster (Friday) - Mallard Handicap
In the immediate aftermath of the sky bet handicap at York, our 1st conversation was how well BAGUE D’OR ran off a pretty big lay off and the 2nd was How the mallard looks tailored made for him. So to see him entered here I was immediately drawn to him.
The only doubt creeping in is with weather related now, he seems at home on quick ground but has ran well (and won) on good to soft. We’ve had some brief torrential downpours over the last few days so hopefully that doesn’t get too deep into the surface.
His final bit of form of 2022 is what makes me think that he has a bit up his sleeve still, as well and the improvement of horses that have left the Chris Wall yard since he retired. Beaten by Trawlerman that day, who backed up by winning the Sky Bet Ebor before placing in the Long Distance Cup on champions day. The 3rd that day was the old boy Euchen Glen, who is still in the form of his life, coming 4th in this year’s Sky Bet Ebor.
He’s ran over the mile and 6 furlongs twice and has been doing all his best work at the finish, so this extended mile and 6 furlongs can only aid his chances of winning. Daniel Muscutt is currently jocked up on the BHA which shows their intention of running.
Selection - Bague D’or EW (7/1 Bet365, 6/1 General)
Hopefully these 4 bet’s give us a run for our, and your money and go very close.
