Weekly Eye-Catchers 31st July – 6th August 2023
31st July – 6:22 Lingfield
Roman Tempest
Held up keen in rear, held together for far too long, sat on the bridle at the 2f pole and I think John Egan may have forgotten how to ride a finish, poorly stopped. Very ill-judged ride and wasn’t missed by the stewards. Keep an eye on the market.
31st July – 6:57 Lingfield
Decisive Call
3rd run for a mark, held up in rear never really going on the ground, ran on very a very distant 6th, look to follow into handicaps, maybe on better ground. has shown enough on the bridle to suggest he has enough ability to progress.
1st August – 5:20 Yarmouth
Available Angel
Nice bounce back to form here, travelled very well for a long way only to be edged out by a nicely handicaped type for the level. Won’t get any more than 2lb for that run putting him still in the 0-50 bracket. My guess is he will be very hard to beat in the 1m Classified stakes at Yarmouth on the 16th August.
3rd August – 5:20 Goodwood
Classical Song
Nicely bred type, out of a dam who has been prolific in producing nice middle-distance types. Don’t know the depth of the form here but she ran a very nice race here. Slow to break, pushed along to be prominent, settled nicely enough behind leaders, slightly outpaced when pushed along, ran on nicely under educational ride. Will have learnt loads from that and will be hard to beat in your Fillies Maidens. Nice Type who will be worth following.
3rd August – 7:45 Newcastle
Regal Solitaire
Raw 2yo, who was unrideable on first 2 starts (Bucking), was starting to question why connection are preserving with her but she has shown much more on last 2 starts, still raw and green but defiantly has ability to work with. In the paddock, she is a nice physical type and still had a frame to fill. Broke well Showed lots of speed admits greenness (changing leads, racing inefficiently), push came to shove, and she got a very nice educational ride, only beaten 2l what is very promising. Will be interested to see what mark she gets for Nurseries, now she is slowly learning on the job, ironing out the quirks and becoming a racehorse. 5-6f off marks in the low 50s would make serious appeal, got plenty of dash.
3rd August – 8:45 Newcastle
Struck Gold
Travelled well in rear, no gaps when coming with run, put into race very late, good work late on, jockey restrained mount final furlong when leaders had gone. Could drop into classifieds with his rating, Is entered up for Chelmsford on Tuesday.
4th August – 5:20 Goodwood
True Legend
Unlucky here, looks to have further improved for the addition of cheekpieces, he was the best horse in this race here and would have won with a clear passage. No clear run many of times, switched and flew home for 2nd, winner got first run. Follow up next time.
