19th June – 5:00 Lingfield 

 

Spirit Of Breeze 

 

Did very well to finish where he did, could have arguably won with a better ride. Held up last in slow run race, 1st 2nd and 3rd were all handy, he came from last to run a close 4th under tender handling. Didn’t look the most straightforward but should have learnt a lot from that. Looks like a step back up in trip wouldn’t go a miss, and I will be keeping him onside wherever he goes, 5 or 6f.

 

20th June – 2:20 Thirsk 

 

Cloud Cover 

 

Weak enough to back, over raced at times, travelling strongly into the straight, making a big move round the outside but didn’t fully look in love with the soft ground and didn’t find as much as anticipated. Weakened out of things late. Will look to bet him back on the AW over 7f.

 

21st June – Ascot 2:30 

 

Lady Pink Rose 

 

Ran a great race in the circumstances. Was on the wrong side of the track and made a big move to get into the race on the far side. If on the other side of track, she would have been placed at least. Look to back next time.

 

21st June – Newcastle 6:20 

 

Harappan

 

Nicely picked out pre-race by my Scottish Judge, lovely trade from 170s into 10s in running. Caught the eye John Butler sending it up to Newcastle on a Wednesday night for a maiden, Decent enough USA pedigree, ran very well from the rear, travelled smoothly, switched multiple times in the run, got clear run late and ran on strongly into 3rd , look to back NTO on the AW.

 

22nd June – Ripon 2:50

Terrible excuse of a ride this, clearly not off, late drift on Exchnage said it all. Held up last on the rail, made good ground but never was really asked to go. Quietly being plotted for a target, 6f 0-55 at Thirsk on the 5th July would be my call.

 

22nd June – Ripon 4:45 

 

Sandret 

 

Honking ride this, Andrew Mullen trying so hard to stop it on multiple occasions but didn’t do a very good job, clearly being plotted for another gamble, doesn’t surprise me from this mob. Maybe a trip back to Newcastle for a 1m handicap? Either way ill be keeping him onside in 1m+ handicaps. May be wise to follow the money. 

 

24th June – Lingfield 7:50 

 

Endless Season 

 

Ran well from unpromising position here, travelled strongly, had to weave through beaten horses from the back of the field, ran on very strongly once gaps opened. 1st and 3rd were prominent all the way, so he has run well against a pace bias here. Will be picking up 7-8f Classifieds soon.

The Neighsayers - Friday 13th September

  No blog yesterday for the first day of the Leger meeting, mainly due to uncertainty around the ground we were getting. We’re back for day 2 though. 15:00 Doncaster - Big Mojo A lot to like about this horses chance today, starting with the drop back to minimum trip, showed his usual pace at York but failed to stay. Looks to be plenty of pace on in here too with Aesterius drawn on his side and then King’s Call, Zayer and Tropical Storm over the other side. If he sit’s just off these and strikes late he should emulate last year’s success for connections with Big Evs. A somewhat shock winner at Goodwood but should that was no fluke when running a good race at York when not staying as I’ve mentioned.  Selection - Big Mojo 5/2 General - 1pt win 16:10 Doncaster - Beatrice Shilling This favourite, Cabrera has to be taken on for me. The Neighsayers - Thursday 5th September

 Nice to get on the board for September yesterday with Snow Berry winning at 15/2 (or 9/1 if you had the luxury), but with the 2pt bet going down it wasn't as good as we'd hoped for, but profit on the day nevertheless. 17:35 Lingfield - Ormolulu Think this is well worth an each way bet now seeing 7 furlongs for the first time and returning to the all-weather. Dropped down in the handicap considerably this year, beginning on 79 and comes here off 70 with the jockey claiming 3. This is the lowest grade of race she's ever contested too, being a 51-70 and now in a fillies only race that can only be a positive too. The favourite takes up a lot of the market here and he's not guaranteed to get his own way in front this time, with Twilight Dancer and Beveragino in the race and I think he's well worth taking on. She was keen in her 3 year old campaign but the hood seemed to have worked the oracle there and hopefully can continue to do so with the slower tempo of a 6 furlong...
