Weekly Eye-Catchers 12th – 18th June 2023

Caught my eye here outrunning her massive SP of 125/1. Keen hold in rear, made very smooth headway into a decent position, looked very green when asked for an effort (not the first time) , suggesting she may not have had much work before her novice runs. 3 qualifying runs in less than a month suggesting she is being prepped with handicaps in mind. I will be keeping her onside in handicaps.

Captain John Barry
Probably gone under the radar this one. Nice run out the back for a mark. Needed niggling to pick the bridle up but did respond, not knocked about much into the straight. 3 runs all coming on soft/heavy ground and with him being out of Saxon Warrior he should be much better on better ground. Will get a mark in the 50s what will be more than exploitable in low grade handicaps.
15th June – 8:50 Haydock
Kamanika
Travelled strongly in midfield, hampered down the back and coming into the straight, travelling very well when no clear run multiple times, stopped again at crucial time when challenging. Ran on for 5th probably should have challenged the winner. Look to back next time over 10f.
16th June – 5:30 Goodwood
Phoenix Duchess
Ran well here on 3rd run in Novice/Maidens. Travelled well enough, pushed along but hands and heels all the way, nice and educational. Will get a mark soon, will look to back in Nursery’s. Can imagine she’s much better than what’s been seen on the track.
17th June – 5:05 Sandown
Arbescato
Never been the best horse fresh, so I wasn’t keen on backing him today. Ran much better than I expected, travelling really well into the straight with no clear run, switched to the outside slightly blew up in final furlong. Will come on for that run today, look to back him throughout the season over 1m6f+.
