The Neighsayers - Weekly Eye-Catchers 1st - 7th May 2023

Weekly Eyecatchers 1st – 7th May 2023

1st May – 2:25 Curragh

Drumroll

Really like this as a type, full brother to Saxon Warrior. Impressed on debut winning from unpromising position on ground what I thought wouldn’t have suited, but he backed that up again today on heavy ground what you can mark-up massively. His dam was much better on good ground, along with the majority of Drumrolls sires progeny. Genuine group winner in waiting on better ground.

1st May – 5:18 Bath

Covertly

7/2 out to 20s on the day, but ran with significant promise, held up ran keen on the rail, passed horses quite easily but was never put in the race or asked to challenge. Has a mark of 46 what is more than exploitable in weak races over 7f-1m. May be wise to follow the money.

2nd May – 3: 10 Nottingham

Zarga

Like this as a type, ran a nice race on testing ground, ran asif he will come on for the run, will look to back next time over 1m on slightly quicker ground.

2nd May – 3:50 Brighton

Havana Pusey

Ran a great race on debut running on late into 2nd. Hails from a yard what don’t normally have horses forward for debut so testament to this one that he ran so well. The yard know the family well so they will the best out of this one in time. Back in 5-6f Maiden/Novices.

4th May – 1:50 Redcar

Selby’s Joy

Biggest Eyecatcher of the week for me, 1000s on the machine so clearly wasn’t off here, showed much more than she did on debut, travelled very well showing quite abit of speed, not knocked about whatsoever. The Coyles know the family well training her half-brother who is useful. Looks to be learning on the job, small bet in next novice/maiden, follow up in sprint handicaps.

5th May – 4:10 Newmarket

Midnight Affair

Travelled nicely in what may work out to be an above average maiden, short of room at crucial part of race, winner kicked down outside while midnight affair had to be switched round horses, ran on well but useful winner had flown. Back NTO in maiden/novice.

5th May – 4:45 Newmarket

Strong Impact

Like her as a type, well backed overnight but weak on the show, showed good ability travelling well, slightly outpaced by the leaders but stayed on well to take 2nd in the final strides. Winner looked very good so the form between the front two will stand up. Back in a maiden NTO over 10-12f.

5th May – 4:40 Cork

Captain John Barry

Nicely buried by new connections, well thought of horse for previous connections but drop to 6f was never going to suit judging by breeding and the way he ran on debut. Dropped out last, wasn’t off a yard, ran on very late past beaten horses. Will look to back him up in trip to maybe 1m, could be interesting on handicap debut.

5th May – 4:55 Goodwood

Grandmaster flash

Not off, held up last, good headway travelling well, not really asked to go until far too late, ran on past beaten horses into 4th. They are fiddling with this one so would be wise to follow the money.

5th May – 5:50 Cork

West Of Wichita

Ran nicely enough on debut showing nice level of ability to run on from the rear of midfield. Slight pace bias in this race so did well to close late. Look to back in maidens NTO.

6th May – 2:50 Newmarket

Gis A Sub

Ran a great race for a long way on ground what he hated, travelled well and led a very competitive field till the business end. Managed to finish 8th what was a very good effort. Looks primed for a nice 6f handicap on quicker ground.

7th May – 2:15  Leopardstown

Thornbrook

Visually wasn’t an eyecatcher today, but more on the conditions I would like to take this one forwards. This horse needs quick ground, can’t run to her best on soft, underperformed massively today on the ground, subsequently may get a nice price on her back on G or GF ground over 1m+.

7th May – 4:35 Leopardstown

Eastern Wind

Change of tactics today with the first-time hood on, travelled well enough under restraint, kept on steadily from unpromising position. Look to back over 1m without the hood on, Ready to win when reverting back to prominent tactics.
