The Neighsayers - Weekly Eye-Catchers 17th - 23rd April 2023
Weekly Eye-Catchers 17th – 23rd April 2023
17th April – 1:15 Redcar
Mistress Teite
Ran very well on debut for a yard who’s 2yo's don't really fire till handicaps. Held up, pushed into the race late and ran on very well to take 3rd. A great education for a 2yo, who should have the ability to win NTO.
17th April – 1:50 Redcar
Mutanaaseq
Well backed on the day and I can understand why, travelled very well into the race, impeded on the rail jockey had to stop riding for multiple strides, ran on under tender handling. Stones below last winning mark so should be winning races this flat season over 7f.
17th April – 4:10 Redcar
Cantora
One of the more obvious eyecatchers for the week. Travelled strongly, got no luck in running had to weave in and out of beaten horses, got the gaps late but couldn’t run down the front runner. Granted better luck in running should be going in next time on the turf.
18th April – 1:40 Tipperary
Battle Of Ridgeway
Rare jumps eyecatcher from me, ran very well in toungestrap when looking for a mark. Made eye-catching progress from an unpromising position, then wasn’t knocked about. Will look to back on handicap debut.
19th April – 1:40 Beverley
Classy Clarets
More of an eyecatcher in the paddock. A fine stamp of a horse who looked like he has not filled out his frame yet , will benefit with time and more racing. Will be interested to see how he progresses through the year.
19th April – 1:50 Newmarket
Burdett Road
Ran very well against a huge pace bias, only beaten 6l what was very impressive to say how close he was to a frantic pace. Should be progressive the further he goes in trip 1m2 maybe.
20th April – Ripon 2:15
Desert Master
Messy 2yo race, ran well enough this one to suggest he will win a maiden NTO. Very slow away and green early doors, looked badly in need of the experience and didn’t really handle the ridges and undulations at Ripon. Back nto in a maiden, has plenty of ability.
20th April – Ripon 4:30
Mythical
Looked like a slight bounce back to form after a wind op. Ran with credit, slightly outpaced but ran on well under tender handling. Would like to see him up to stiff 10f or 12f. looks nicely handicapped.
20th April – Newmarket 5:45
Majestic Warrior
Unruly in the paddock. Raced lazily, pushed along 3f out, made rapid headway what looked to even surprise the jockey, plugged on but chinned for 3rd on the line. Should come on loads for that. Be interested in backing him next time.
20th April – Chelmsford 5:30
Film Star
Complete float up for a mark, travelled strongly with leaders, pushed along not preserved with, only saw the whip once. Stinks of a handicap debut plot. Will be interested to see what mark she gets. Back over 7f on handicap debut (Mark in low 60s)
21st April – Cork 4:50
Whisky On The Hill
Rather unfancied in the market (SP 33/1) , Ran a very good race held up in rear, made nice headway, put in the race far too late, fast finishing 3rd and should have won, probs best to follow the money being from that yard but I will be keen to have him onside NTO.
22nd April – Newbury 3:50
Ascari
Weak in the betting late, swerved badly left after start, did well to recover, travelled nicely into the race catching the eye in the process. Did nice late work once switched to the Stand side, very promising. Should be more streetwise with more racing, will look to back next time out in a maiden.
22nd April – Limerick 4:25
Laughifyouwant
Dropped to a nice handicap mark and has been meaning to bounce back to form for a while. Held up last off a sedate pace, ran on very well from the back never nearer. Big run against a pace bias, ready to strike when conditions are right.
22nd April – Limerick 3:55
Old Peculier
Biggest Eyecatcher of the week by a long way. 3rd run in a novice/maiden, clearly being prepped with handicaps in mind. Travelled very well but was stopped multiple times by a 10lb claimer. Ran on very well under minimal assistance from the jockey. His previous runs were as eye-catching as his 3rd run; this looks a complete handicap blot. ALL IN ON HANDICAP DEBUT.
